Live TV won't play using HD Homerun connect

You just need to uninstall the current version then install the older version. There maybe a prompt that asks whether you want to keep the data files or not, keep them if prompted, otherwise all your data should stay put. The uninstall process is just removing the contents of the install directory and not the app (server) data.

Hello Atomatth Is plex Working on a fix soon or should we not install any updates?
thank you in advance

Hello, I had a similar problem with the latest version of plex server, with the PVR of Maximus records 30 seconds.

No more problem by returning to the previous version.

VBOX (PVR)

I am dead in the water with everything Plex except to see the menus. I also am using the HD Home Run Quatro tuner that has been fine for years. Now it seems to be trying to use all four tuners to mysteriously record college football games. They are not scheduled in my DVR and I am not trying to watch any games. The only way to stop it is to restart Plex, but as soon as it gets back up and running it starts doing the same thing.

Please provide some instructions on how to roll back to a previous version of Plex.

Thanks…

PLEX roll back on Asustor NAS did not go well

Instead of partially working, PLEX 1.32.8 wouldn’t even launch.
I shut down PLEX (PMS) via Asustor App Central, deleted the app, manually installed ver 1.32.8.7639, and I got this msg:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. Plex Media Server is currently running database migrations.

In short. . . PLEX 1.32.8 would not function at all even after a NAS(PMS Server) reboot.
I then manually updated to Plex ver 1.40.5 and PLEX server would still not launch from NAS.
Another reboot of NAS and now I am back to having a partially functioning PLEX 1.40.5 server. Still can’t play videos . . unless they are PLEX channels (This must be a clue to anyone trying to solve these issues at PLEX)
I hope the PLEX team is working diligently on this over the weekend.
Another clue is that I get a DRM error when attempting to play videos

Seems as though it could be a licensing or certificate issue at PLEX.

I also appear to be having this issue. I get an error when trying to watch live TV from my HDHomeRun tuner. The error states “Playback Error. This live TV session has ended.”

I’m running version 1.41.0.8992 on Windows 10 with a built-in GPU. I’m just using the web client when attempting to start live TV viewing.

Interestingly, DVR recordings appear to work fine. It is only when trying to watch live TV that it fails.

Logs are attached.

Moving through major releases 1.32.x, 1.40.x, 1.xx.x, etc. you’ll likely see this message. The migrations may take some time to complete. I’m not sure how long you waited but in general you need to let these migrations finish.

Is this any video or specifically as it relates to this thread’s issue: Live TV playback failing on Web?

As for the DRM message, this seems to be drifting away from this thread’s issue. Happy to move this into another thread. Also could please share your PMS logs?

I have PMS on win 10pro 64-bit with a HDHomeRun FLEX QUATRO and HDHomeRun FLEX 4K on the network all hardwired on the network. On the HDHomerun app and recorded with plex, the stream is flawless, When watching live TV on Plex, through any device, picture freezes with audio only. Both tuners have been deleting and re-added, server and client software all up to date, even reinstalled plex server and client software. This just recently started happening out of the blue(no changes to system or hardware).

PC Specs:
Processor-Intel(R) Core™ i5-6500 3.20GHz
RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable).

Any help in resolving my headache is and will be Greatly Appreciated.

UpDate: As previously stated above, Reverting back to PlexMediaServer-1.40.5.8921-836b34c27-x86_64, seems to resolve the issue.

@Atomatth do you have enough logs and feedback to say there is a known issue with a future planned resolution?
If not, what else do you need?

I think I have everything we should need, thank you. All the logs shared have been collected and an internal issue is tracking this reported problem. Unfortunately, with somewhat similar hardware and setup I’m not able to reproduce the reported issue. I must be missing something somewhere. Regardless, the engineering team is investigating.

I am unable to stream live TV from “HD Homerun Extend” device.
When launching video, it displays a frozen thumbnail of the channel, but no rolling video and no audio.
This trouble exists on all of my client devices (MacBook Air, iPhone, iPad, Roku Ultra, etc.)
I have attached my logs if you need them.
I also get the message “Playback error. This live TV session has ended.”
When I go to Other Videos, I can get some videos to run just fine, but other give the DRM error message which I never received until this new issue arose.
I can also go to Live TV and get “What’s On (Plex Channels)” to run just fine.

Thanks for the suggestion to roll back to server version 1.40. I was having an issue with a new HDHomeRun Flex tuner and thought is was a setup issue. I installed it in Plex and was able to open the Live TV, but then it would stall out. I checked the HD Homerun app and everything was working correctly. I was not able to use the Ruku app, the Android TV app or the Ios app. I kept getting a timeout error or 'Not available". Even recording wasn’t working correctly.
I rolled back to 1.40 on the Win10 server and everything has been good since then on all viewing platforms.
Thanks again for the suggestion. I hope the Plex guys will address this issue soon.

Since we have been unable to replicate locally, I am looking for a volunteer to let me know if Build A (win 64) fixes the issue, Build B (win 64) fixes the issue, they both do, or neither do.

Hi Chris,

I had posted in a different thread, pasted below.

I was able to test Build A & B and the Live TV stream is functional in both. I tested in each of the environments referenced below that weren’t working.

Thanks for the fix!

Cheers,
Jay

@PDX-Connection thanks for the feedback!

Hello Chris.

longtime Plex DVR user. Something that feels very similar to this issue has happened before, if I recall. The issue affected people with recurring recordings scheduled for sports, such as all Boston Red Sox games, or New York Jets games, etc… It also might have been related to the time of year/calendar. The threads should still be buried here, but this was some years ago. If the devs are still looking for causes, please mention to them that something related to scheduled sporting events/games was a common thread in the past and might be worth checking. I can remove all my scheduled recordings this weekend and do some troubleshooting. But I was able to replicate the problem by adding recurring recordings for specific sports teams back then and I’m curious if that is a common thread for the afflicted folks this time.

After updating to 1.41.0.8992 - Live TV is working again with the HDHomerun device on my side.

Your latest version (1.41.0.8994) has recovered my ability to stream HD Homerun with Plex (PMS) running on an Asustor NAS.
My working clients are now:

  • MacBook Air
  • Roku Ultra
  • iPhone

Many thanks for that.

However, I still have issues playing “Other Videos” that include older short videos, music videos, etc. @Atomatth (Plex Employee) offered to add this as a separate issue, but I was waiting to see if the solution to the live streaming may also fix my DRM errors.
Unfortunately, I am still getting this error when attempting to launch “some” saved videos. “Some” because some launch fine and others result in:

For years I was able to play all of these, so would you please submit a ticket to investigate? I have tried launching Plex on MacBook via Chrome and Safari without success. I also specifically added “app.plex.tv” to the browser settings to enable running protected content. Are there other settings I could be investigating? Perhaps there are embedded DRM rights in some files that have expired??? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@Whitehaired can you send us one of these small files so we can attempt to reproduce? Also, does rolling back to a previous version of pms restore this functionality?

I updated to version 1.41.0.8994 but am still unable to play live TV. There appears to be no change for me.
