Livetv-dvr does not record one particular show

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#:

First where do you find the above information? I found the first number under Setting > General. Hopefully that is right. Could never find the second number.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD tuner. I’m recording OPB-TV in Oregon. It seems to pick and chose what it wants to record.

WW plex 4

It will NOT record Washington Week from OPB TV or OPB PLUS, although it will record other shows on both channels. It shows on the Live TV & DVR GUIDE, the DVR SCHEDULE and the RECORDING PRIORITY.

WW plex 3

When I look at the proper PMS Log file it does not even show an attempt to record.

I have set the Record Option to New and Repeat Airings hoping to capture the program. This has been going on for weeks.

Warning: I’m essentially new at troubleshooting PMS.

Thanks, Fred

During my fumblings, I have discovered this.

Both of these screen shots are from today Friday 1/24 taken at around 9:30AM.

Notice that Washington Week is flagged as NEW and is showing the red record as being set. in the GUIDE shot.

But in the DVR SCHEDULE shot it is not showing that it will record.

I will post the PMS log files after it should record.

Thanks, Fred

Check your library and see if you already have a S52E82 recorded.

Verified in my Media files and I do not have anything.
In my deleted files from last week I do have a S52E81.

It did not record as suspected.
Attached are the logs and database files from debug.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-01-24_20-34-28.zip (2.3 MB)
Plex Media Server Databases_2020-01-24_20-35-18.zip (2.7 MB)

The logs weren’t set to debug mode but even without that I can tell a couple of things.

You database is corrupt and needs a repair.
You may have a permission problem on the Plex Media directory or a disk error.
Your PC is going to sleep or shutting down.

I’m so sorry, I forgot to check for the debug switch. I’ll flip it. WW is set to record 3 more times…

I’ll run a repair on the database.

I’ll look for permissions on the drive. Not quite sure how to do that.

I restart the computer every morning at 4AM. If I don’t it doesn’t play the TS files nicely. Lots of pauses, can’t skip forwards or backwards smoothly and takes a long time to spool up… Have even lost audio/video sync a few times.

Thank you so much for the help.

@pl_5309
Plex was set to DEBUG
debug

I ran both chkdsk and WD Data Lifeguard and neither found any errors.

I restarted PMS at 12:00 looked at the log file and found this error:

WARN - Sync: local sync directory “C:\Users\Fred\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sync+” does not exist"

Sync+ does not exist, but the rest of the path is valid.

PMS is recording a program right now, so I am not sure what the problem is.

How do I set the permissions for the Media drive?
Is it done in Plex?
Is there an app note for doing it.
I will look for an app note on setting permissions.

Note that PMs did record Washington Week until about Oct '19.
Plus it records programs on a daily basis.

Is there an app note for troubleshooting this type of problem?

Thanks again for the help.

That debug is for the player not the server.

Do Enable Plex Media Server debug logging
Do Not Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging

Repairing the Database should be the first priority.
Repair Database

If you have never synced anything there won’t be a sync directory, it is as it says just a warning. The database has bad entries so it is possible it was looking for files that don’t exist.

I have the proper DEBUG set now, it shows up in the .log file.
I was confused. Since I was in the PMS window (127…) I thought it would be for the server.

Now my problem is in “Repair a Corrupt Database”.
It states :
“If you haven’t added the SQLite executable to your path environment, then it’s easiest to simply copy the sqlite3.exe executable file into the above directory so that it’s easy to run.”

I screwed up and did not see the “sqlite3.exe” in the “tools” file.
So I went to the " Note : You can also simply delete the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db…" and it deleted my sidebar navigation. At which point I panicked and restored everything.

Was it supposed to destroy the sidebar navigation, or did I screw something up?

Meanwhile the DVR Schedule shows that Washington Week will record Sunday at 4:30PM.
WW Sunday
And the Guide agrees.
WW Sunday Guide

Let’s see if it does. I think it will since it did last week. Then maybe look at why it didn’t choose the Friday session when it was flagged as new.
Is this a reasonable idea?
Or do I need to Repair the database first?

Thank you so much for the help, Fred

It is very important to shut Plex Server down before attempting to repair the database.
This is the zip file you should be grabbing, https://www.sqlite.org/2020/sqlite-tools-win32-x86-3310000.zip . Unzip that, it will give you the sqlite3.exe. It would probably be best to copy the database to that directory since there is no feedback when you run the commands.

About the scheduling, since the program is on two different channels, the NEW and previously aired are conflicting with the previously aired cancelling out the NEW. You would have to go into the recording and set it for New and Repeats, then go into advanced and set “Limit to Channel” and “Limit to Air Time”.

Totally understand what you are saying about the database.

The first time WW was to record was marked new, but it didn’t.
I had it set to “new and repeat”, without limits.
I don’t understand why it has chosen Sunday at 4:30?

Do a full refresh of the guide in case they are pushing out last minute edits.

Will do right now.

Hang on used power shell instead of Command Prompt.

@pl_5309

Works much better with command prompt.
I did the repair and the size of the datasheet changed.
PMS is up and running, DVR guide and Schedule look right.
The header bar for Live-TV and DVR changed.
Would you like a dump of the log files or wait and see what happens tomorrow after Washington Week should record?

Thanks so much for the help hints and support, Fred

Tomorrow after the show records will tell more about what is going on.

Agreed.
Just did a quick peek and this is the most predominate message:
ERROR - PlexClient::downloadContainer: expected MediaContainer element, found html

I’ll send them tomorrow.

Thanks so very much, Fred

@pl_5309

As I suspected, it did record. It was listed in the Schedule which was my clue.
Attached are the LOGS and DATABASE

A minor question. How does DVR “declare” a program to be new?

Thanks, Fred

@pl_5309

Heads up: I stumbled on this thread tonight and they are going down a parallel road very similar to ours. The person that asked the question is way more advanced then me. I’m stumbling along with just all Plex.

https://forums.plex.tv/t/imported-guide-looks-perfect-won-t-record-series-shows/527950

I need to locate the XML code for the Guide, so I can see if presents the same problems with tags conflicting and not recording the show.

Cheers, Fred
