'Match'/'Fix Match' for Collections

The Movie DB has entries for Collections, such as:

It might be a nice feature if one could Match a collection using the TMDB ID number. It would allow Plex to grab descriptions and cast information.

This might be more difficult for Music libraries. Musicbrainz has ‘Release Series’ that function like Collections, but I don’t know how complete they are.

You mean as an option to match your manually created collections (given Plex already looks up the movie database when it’s automatically creating collections for your library incl. poster, backdrop and descriptions :wink: )

Plex has never grabbed a description for any collection it has auto-created for me. So maybe that’s the problem. My movie collection is exceedingly small, so this may be trivial.

Also, for an individual movie or album, I can ‘Fix Match’ or ‘Unmatch’ if Plex got it wrong. That’s not available for Collections.

Aaaand, naturally, I just fired up my Windows VM, where I have a Plex server that has never had a Movie library. I created a library, pointing it to my movies, and it created collections with descriptions.

Welcome to the new world :wink:
Check the following parameters in your regular library:

  1. Agent is set to Plex Movie (current version, not legacy)
  2. If there’s an option ⋮ > Manage Library > Upgrade Matching… perform that task (that basically means your library is still in an older stage (despite the new Plex Movie agent being set)
  3. Within the library settings… Advanced > Minimum automatic collection size is not set to Disabled

The update on its own did not upgrade any collections. If I remember correctly, there’s been quite a discussion about that when the new agent was introduced.

Correct. If you wanted to do that, you’d have to:

  1. erase the old collections (at least those which are existing on TMDB)
  2. edit each movie which has been previously in a collection and unlock the ‘Collection’ input field (there is a way using the http API to do it for a whole library)

Greetings, came across this feature request after making the following post Nested Collections for custom created Movie/TV Collections and it being mentioned this could also be a possible solution for what I am seeing. In short trying to create collection across media types that nest into one another.

In this case for example LEGO Scooby-Doo Collection comes up as a collection on themoviedb however try as I might it wouldn’t automatically create this collection.

Using the Plex Movie agent, confirmed Collections field is unlocked/clear before attempting to refresh but no luck. A feature to “Match” a collection against a collection in themoviedb would be awesome for these cases where they don’t seem to be detected/take.
