As Plex is now threatening us with switching off old agents soon, it is time to say - again - that the “new” Plex crawlers are not really working.
I’ve tested them a few times before months ago. It was always with big issues. Some time ago many episodes could not be recognized and several other things.
It was always extensive work necessary to repair everything after switching back to old crawler that work more than reliable.
All promises during the last months that the new crawler can do much more than the old ones do not result in a working crawler.
A few days ago at the update before this a. m. update I got yesterday, I’d accepted again to switch to the new crawler. And again a catastrophe. Only a very little number of episodes were recognized, almost all were unknown or only the numbers of each episode were showing - not to mention that TheTVDB that Plex promised to use has all of this data, but Plex was not able.
NO NEW EPISODES COULD BE ADDED. NO NEW SERIES COULD BE ADDED. Even after removing those folders/files from Plex folder and adding them again… nothing. Logfile was showing that Plex had crawled those new folders and recognized the number of episodes but it was mentioned that no new and (0) was added. They were added to the database, but NOT start to show in Plex.
If you get into this once, it makes you sad, but if you get into this several times, it makes you very angry, as it costs endless time to resolve the issue by switching again back to the old crawlers.
If Plex really will switch off old crawlers - and the new ones will not work for a few, for many or for all, it may be the end of use of Plex for those…
Very sorry for the delay. Was lost in time afterwards. Will come back to your reply soon.
I am testing now and after switching back to old agent, I switched again to new agent. Newly added episodes are added now, but there’s some kind of “virus” now:
ANY new series will be added automatically as "Das Powerteam - Superman & Co. (Staffel 1) (1978). Searching via “Fix Match” does not work as Plex always falls back to Powerteam until I am unmatching it. Only after Matching it again, a correct Search for the correct name of the series is working. Very strange. (This issue is not new. I had it several months ago as well - always when switching to the Plex TV Series scanner.)
@WMHome can you please post your file structure, odds are either your naming schema or folder layout is at fault, but should be fairly easy to fix once we ID what the issue is
Can you please explain what you mean with “naming schema”?
Interesting is that all of this started to happen after complete backup of plesk folders, new installation of windows 10 (before 32-bit, now 64-bit), restoring plesk to resp. folders and overinstall of Plex.
naming schema refers to the format of how you name your files.
Can you take a snapshot of the “Add folders” window when you edit your library, and a screenshot of the filenames (try to include the directory path if at all possible)
So got what I desired for the show in a DM due to privacy
And you are using the wrong naming scheme
So, if you have a path to your media like:
E:\NAS2\Serien\<SHOW NAME AS YOU THINK IT'S NAMED>\Staffel 20 then that is sadly wrong
First of all, the show folder name should not be the common name that all use, but the actual name as identified by tmdb.org
Like:
4 Shows:
GOT ( Should have a folder name as: Game of Thrones (2011) {tmdb-1399})
Inspector Barneby ( Should have a folder name as: Midsomer Murders (1997) {tmdb-764} )
Do a search on tmdb.org and you’ll find the correct tmdb-ID in the url. Important is also to have (YEAR) in the folder name
Also note, that for a season, then Staffel 20 is not accepted, and should ALWAYS be the english naming, as Season 20
