Hello / I installed the update and then reinstalled it and plex still will not scan in new episodes. Did a full refresh and still nothing. Movie’s I add scan in just fine. The only way I was able to get plex to see all episodes in testing is I created a new tv folder only scanning the directory folder of that show. Any help or anybody else having this issue?
Check permissions so that Plex still has access to that folder. Otherwise, gather logs when trying to attempt a scan (enable debug log, restart server and start a scan for a new show, note date and time, capture logs and add as zip). See more information here - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703-Reporting-issues-with-Plex-Media-Server
Ok appreciate your help! 12/22/16 - 12:49 and trying to upload .zip but the button to upload isn’t working for me in chrome or explorer …ugh actually I can’t use any of the font tools either.
OK. That’s weird. Try clearing the cache and signing out / in again. But as I said, if you get the functionality to work when creating a brand new folder (and pointing Plex to that folder only) then it is highly likely that you have some sort of permission issue at hand.
Peter I wanted to give you an update. I tried and spent hours trying to figure this out. Plex will only scan in 1 tv series / folder. If I add additional folders they lump together under the same title. It is really weird. I ended up uninstalling plex and found an older version and everything works fine again. Not sure what is going on but would like to know so I can upgrade
I’m having the same problem with this latest update. It is all going into NCIS Los Angeles. I’m going to try going to an older version. Seems like the best logical explanation. It’s been working great for years. But this last update is causing problems!
Going to the previous version worked perfect! Don’t know what is wrong with the latest update, but it isn’t working properly.
I have no such issues with the latest version. Which version have you guys downgraded to for it to work? How are you naming your files and folders?
I know we have some issues attaching stuff to the forum, but when that works again I’d like to see logs from when it doesn’t work and when it does work.
Hi Peter. I’ve been running Plex for a very long time, I believe since Aug 2013, maybe earlier because I bought Plex Pass Sept 22, 2013 and I usually try something out a month or 2 before purchasing. So, I know that all of my seasons and folders/files are named properly. I reverted back to Version 1.3.2.3112 from Version 1.3.3.3148 and every time I reinstall Version 1.3.3.3148, all my shows start populating into the LAST Show that was populated in. I go back to 3112, and no problem at all!!
Gather logs from when it is working and from when it is not, so that we can compare:

Thanks Peter, but I think I’ll just wait until the next update. I don’t want to mess up my 26 terabytes of files. It takes me too switch everything back over to repair. I’m a very busy man with 2 full time 40 hour a week each jobs. I’ll just wait. If it does it on the next update, I’ll run logs. Thanks again.
Hi Peter. I was able to repair the problem by just deleting the last TV folder out of the library and then re-adding it into the library. It took a while to get everything back in order, but at least it is working now!
Thanks
Darren
Weird, sounds like it might be some sort of database corruption. Double-check that your database is OK via this help article - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201100678-Repair-a-Corrupt-Database - it won’t take you long todo and is just a precaution (take a copy of the database before doing this).
Peter_W … I finally have figured it all out! After 3 months of it doing it on ALL of the new versions , only 1.3.2.3112 and before works. What I do is when I record a TV Show, I put it into a folder called SORT. So, my tree looks like this: e:\TV\SORT … And under TV, I have all of my shows, then seasons in folders. EG: e:\TV\Big.Bang.Theory\Season.01\episodes… etc. They all work fine. But, when I record my shows and put them into the SORT folder for me to sort them like I have done for the past several years, it places all TV Shows into the last TV Show that was sorted. When I take them out of my sort folder, and delete them off of Plex, and empty trash, and put them into the correct SORTED folder, it recognizes the correct show. I have been fighting this for 3 months. Today, I decided to just copy my shows into the TV folder (no SORT) and Plex populated it correctly. Somewhere after version 1.3.2.3112 this changed…At least now I understand what the problem is. I just hate going through the whole TV folder to sort it when it used to be just fine in a sub-folder. Maybe with this information, you can go through the versions of 1.3.2.3112 and the next one and see what was changed to rectify this problem. I mean, it’s not a big deal, but I was just letting you know where I found the error… Thanks again!

Sadly, that issue is not something new. Plex does not like it one bit if you point the scanner to incomplete/non sorted files. If it is a download folder or a rip from disc folder or such does not matter at all, Plex will go bonkers regardless (especially true if you have it set to auto detect change). I understand that it has worked before for you - but that was not the intended result but pure luck. Similar to as how straying off the offical naming guide and using other abbrevations might work but in the end will probably cause havoc further down the line.
I’d recommend using Filebot - https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/191687/plex-naming-schemes-for-filebot
You can set it up to automatically sort for you via the AMC script - https://www.filebot.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=215
Thank you…But like I said…It worked for the past 3 years just fine until the version after 1.3.2.3112…I guess that was why I had a hard time figuring it all out. Thanks again for the AMC Scrip[t…I’ll check that out.
Darren
I decided to try again and upgraded and still have the issue.
Anytime I add a new episode or full season it will add the incorrect metadata and assign the file to another show title. If I remove the show it assigned it to incorrectly I can do fix incorrect match and it will fix it for that episode. However I do the Plex Dance and then return the folder to the library that I took out to fix the first issue and it will add it to another show again with the wrong meta data. I just downloaded the logs before I returned it to the folder and then downloaded the logs again after returning it. I’m hoping you might be able to help me figure out what is going on. I returned the folder Grey’s Anatomy and it added it to the show “six” as episodes.
@kmichaeld - sadly, you do not follow the guidelines given. Until you do, there is not much we can do to help.
Example from your scanner log
D:\Media\Plex\TV\Dram\Imposters\Imposters.S01E01.720p.HDTV.x264-FLEET
Should be
D:\Media\Plex\TV\Imposters\Season 01\Imposters - S01E01
Where you point Plex to your TV folder. You could also use Filebot as mentioned above to aid in this.
