Metadata not downloading for new episodes. Please help.

Hi! I’ve been using plex for a year now, flawlessly, but for the last three weeks the metadata for new episodes have not been showing. the title says only “Episode X”, there’s no aired date, or synopsis.

I’ve searched the forums and none of the answers that I found have helped.:

  • All the files are named correctly according to the plex guidelines.

with the possible exception that instead of using “season 02” i’m using “temporada 02”, but that way has always worked before, and I already tried changing the folder name to “season02” without any result
  • I’ve done the “plex dance”: move the files out of plex sight, update library, empty bin, delete bundles, move files back, update.
  • I’ve disabled local media assets on the agents list.
  • I’ve deleted the framework.bundle and system.bundle files.

I ws made aware of this problem when I moved one show (The flash (2014))from one library to another (from adult tv shows to kids tv shows). and all of the metadata for all that show episodes was lost (but the show name was shown correctly). Actually this is what made me aware of the problem.

Sidenote: I had to restore my plex installation due to my server dying on me (restored registry info and plex files). I don’t think this is part of the issue becuase I had the problem beofre this.

I attached the log for the last time I made the dance with that particular show.

Thanks very much for your help.

Plus one.

I have the same issue, which has been going on intermittently for at least a few months with new tv episodes I add to my server. I have always used the format suggested in the naming convention guide as well, with no problems for about a year. I do have a dot in all of my filenames instead of a space, but this has always worked flawlessly before. For example I use the format “The.Big.Bang.Theory.S04E02.episode.title.mp4” for TV episodes, and “Kiss.Kiss.Bang.Bang.2005.mkv” for movies.

I have also noticed similar behaviour with movies as well. Plex does not download the metadata; I have to perform a manual match, because it doesn’t separate the year from the title in searches (i.e. it searches for “Avatar 2009” instead of a movie called “Avatar” from the year 2009).

Any fix on this? Thanks!

It is not exactly according to Naming convention
Please try to rename one of your episodes to Tyrant -SxxExx - Tiltle.ext instead of Tyrant - SxxExx - quality+release group. I think this is the issue here.
It seems Plex has no issues with recognizing “temporada 02” for you, but I just find it strange that you use Videos>Videos>Series>Name, everything English but not for “season”
What software are you using for renaming? Sonarr or SickBeard?

As always with mp4 files, check the possibility of internal metadata in the mp4 files. If they contain “Episodo 8” instead of the correct title, this is what you get.

If you let some software do the naming, make it put all extraneous info which is not in the plex naming guide into square brackets.
Tyrant - s02e08 - [HDTV X264 Killers] 720p.mp4
The scanner is supposed to ignore everything with in []

This is another problem that have been happening lately to me. I think it is the updates that they have been releasing lately. I’ve been running flawlessly for 2+ years and now I am starting to have issues. This all started ever since they release the update that messed up the movie metadata, but that is fixed. Now I have problem with only the TV series. I have a dedicated server just for plex so I know it can’t be my computer.

I think the database was corrupted in some way, I restored a backup and all worked OK.
