Missing Tron_2.mp4 movie file

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1554
Player Version#: 3.108.2

My library, MISSES a movie, namely 'tron_2.mp4.
Tron.mp4 is scanned, and this one is in my library!!
I also added user PLEX and added in the permissions.
My permissions for TRON.MP4 EN TRON_2.MP4 are the same!
And they are in the SAME directory also.

The LOG says:

Sep 08, 2019 11:31:19.055 [0x7f4cda29d740] DEBUG - Adding file for scanner: “/volume1/video/DVD/TRON_2.mp4”
Sep 08, 2019 11:31:19.118 [0x7f4cda29d740] DEBUG - Directory had 316 files, database had 315 files, can’t skip.

So, why that is, i dont know!?

(and, btw, i dont know for sure now, if there are also other .MP4 files missing? (i have +300 files)

Help is greatly apreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Ronnie.

Ok, but this does not answer my question. Because almost the exact same file (tron.mp4), in the same directory, did get scanned, and pops up, just right.
The only difference is the addition of ‘2’.
And in your link/document, i don’t see that an '
’ must be circumvent?
(and as i said, the permissions are the same)
Ronnie

As is typical with poorly named and structured material - works one day, the next day it doesn’t.

If you want stuff to work every day. Name it right. Detailed instructions are in Otto’s link above, but in the interest of time (and instant gratification):

Tron (1982).xxx
Tron Legacy (2010).xxx

Ok, Tron Legacy pops up (i didn’t know it must be so exactly named), i indeed can play it now, but 5 minutes later, it’s disappeared…
Why must this be so difficult, all i want is, that in a library, ALL files get scanned, and the appropriate picture is displayed. The year is not so important to me.
If i google a movie, usually, the one i want does pop up. If not (there is a discrepancy), let it know (log or message, or…).
Why must i get filenames in Plex, that were there 3 days ago, but changed, two days ago, but the old one pops up.
Library scan, must be thorough, and correct.
Sorry for nitpicking (so to say).
The folks here try to help as best as they can, i believe, thanks for that!
But for someone who wants a media library, its a lot trial and error.
Ok, thanks for the info!
Ronnie

This is not about you, this is about Plex being able to adequately identify a wide variety movies. The naming structure/rules existing for a reason: it works.

Not if you’re following the rules  99% of your content will be identified correctly.

You need force a refresh of the database otherwise known as the The Plex Dance ™. Plex will remember “old data” in case a drive goes offline and comes back – it remembers your data so you don’t have to redo it all

You might also want to inform him about Local Media Assets, and lowering it to the bottom of all the active agents before it makes all those MP4/M4V files a real nightmare - even after the correct file name is applied.

When FileBot can’t find a file name at TMDB - I sometimes go there myself to see why not?

And adding to @darcilicious here:

This will never ever work!
Since scanning is (Can be) an unattended process, no GUI popup would work, and asking users to look into a log is impossible, due to users general IT skills.

Due to that, the process has to be 100% automatic, and bulletproof.
As such, naming is important, in order to rule out any doubt

When said, you could use something like FileBot

Since file naming is SOOOOO critical (and it is) a tool that goes to the database in question, gets the name they use, and renames your files the names it just went and got - that pretty much takes care of it… in about 0.2 seconds, which is about how long FileBot took to properly name every single episode of The Handmaid’s Tale (and everything else in my library):

When you stop fighting Plex over file names - the over-all experience improves by leaps and bounds.

Ok thanks everybody!
I think Plex is not for me.
I got Videostation for Synology, and it suits my needs!
Movieposters with every movie, and the movies that were incorrect, were changed by me (naming).
And the correct info (metadata) is displayed right away.
So i’m content!
Again, thanks for puzzeling and thinking with me!
Greets, happy thoughts and bye!

Cool, I think you have chosen wisely.

This is Plex if you’re going to be fighting it tooth and nail for every file name:

Surrender is sometimes the best option.
