Missing TV Show Poster, Banner and Background

Hello,

Appologies for being such a noob…

Plex Version 1.7.5.4035
OS Win 2012 R2
Data on NAS (Mapped network drive)

I’ve imported my Movie Library into Plex and everything worked perfect (Very impressed).

Next, I imported my TV Shows and it’s working to a point where it gets the Show Name, Seasons, Episode Names and Descriptions etc. However, I’m getting no artwork at all. I know it’s not essential but it looks good.

So I’ve googled this a fair bit and tried all the steps here (Including using FileBot to clean the show names): https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/277551/moved-drives-now-missing-cover-art

My TV Show data is structured as follows:

Z:\Data\TV Shows
–> Show Name
----------> Season x
--------------------> Show Name - 1x01 - Episode 1

I’ve moved Local Media Assets (TV) to the bottom in Agents > Shows > TheTVDB/

When I’ve downloaded the log files I can see it downloading fanart but it doesn’t appear:

2017-07-25 12:35:31,147 (82c) : DEBUG (networking:166) - Requesting ‘https://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/71663-5.jpg
2017-07-25 12:35:31,210 (82c) : DEBUG (networking:166) - Requesting ‘https://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/71663-6.jpg
2017-07-25 12:35:31,280 (82c) : DEBUG (networking:166) - Requesting ‘https://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/71663-24.jpg

I’ve checked in Plex Web, Windows app & Android mobile app.

Removed the library multiple times now and tried restarting server but not getting anywhere. Any help would be appreciated!

You’re out of compliance with your TV Show Folder Structure and File Naming:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows

Z:\Data\TV Shows
–> Show Name
----------> Season x
--------------------> Show Name - 1x01 - Episode 1

Should be:

Z:\Data\TV Shows
–> Show Name
----------> Season xx
--------------------> Show Name - S01E01 - Episode 1.mp4

Just in case you are using MP4/M4V (or ever want to) visit:
Plexweb/Settings/Server/Agents/
Drag Local Media Assets to the bottom of every Agent list under all tabs for Show and Movies.

Then:

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie from library
  2. update library
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
    https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— update library, empty trash, clean bundles
  5. bring names and structures into compliance/ or the ultimate bundle reboot operation
  6. replace corrected show/movie into library
  7. update library

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

FileBot - link in my signature - can name and structure your files and folders for you nearly instantly.

Hello, thank you for your reply.

I’ve followed the steps exactly and I’m still not seeing the artwork, although all other data is populated when I move the corrected files back into the library. I’ve double checked and double double checked my file naming convention.

I have “Poster” images on each individual episode but I don’t have images on the Show, Season or in the background…

I have all of my TV shows in the following format:

Z:\Data\TV Shows
–> Show Name
----------> Season xx
--------------------> Show Name - S01E01 - Episode 1.mp4

Local Media Assets is at the bottom in agents

All tabs for Shows: TVDB and TMDB… TVDB should be at the top under it’s tab, TMDB should be at the top under it’s tab, but really… TVDB is the only TV Show database worth a hoot. Still you should not disable TMDB or move it’s agent under TVDB in the TMDB tab, the idea being if TVDB doesn’t have the item TMDB ‘might’.

Anyway…

If you’re certain you’re using compliant naming and structuring and have done The Plex Dance EXACTLY as it’s written, leaving out no steps and performing them in the order they are presented - then do it again exactly as it’s written…

Then, if no joy, grab some logs:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files
Drag zip file to message window and drop it.

I hope you don’t have verbose logging enabled:

… or I will certainly get ‘The Vapors’ and faint dead away…

:slight_smile:

Cracked it in logs:

2017-07-25 17:37:26,980 (e48) : DEBUG (networking:166) - Requesting ‘https://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/graphical/80379-g15.jpg
2017-07-25 17:37:26,992 (614) : INFO (logkit:16) - <urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:590)>

Cert for the offending URL is issued to Cloudflaressl.com by Comodo, thetvdb.com is a SAN entry on the cert.

The Root cert (The USERTRUST Network) is automatically installed when you browse to a URL in a browser, but the Intermediates are not installed. Once I installed the Intermediates and did The Plex Dance all art was working.

For any others with the same issue, to resolve you need to:

  1. Open above URL in IE (This will automatically add “The USERTRUST Network” to your Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store, note this will appear as AddTrust)
  2. Click the “Padlock” in the address bar > View Certificates
  3. Click the “Certification Path” tab
  4. Click “View Certificate” on “COMODO ECC Certification Authority”, install to Local Machine Intermediates Store
  5. Repat step 4 for “COMODO ECC Domain Validation Secure Server CA 2”
  6. You should now have “AddTrust External CA Root” in your Root store and two Comodo Intermediates in the Intermediate store.
  7. Run The Plex Dance
  8. Enjoy

Error in log file was:

2017-07-25 17:37:27,694 (e48) : INFO (logkit:16) - <urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:590)>
2017-07-25 17:37:27,703 (b64) : DEBUG (networking:166) - Requesting ‘https://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/80379-24.jpg

(Can’t figure out how to edit)

Ok the Forum is chopping my error message. Error to look out for was:

SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED

Ah yes, the old certificate bug…

@OttoKerner ?

Until The Master Arrives I’ll give this a go:

I do believe that’s the one I should bookmark, but you should read immediately.
