Most recent Plex upgrade broke remote access?

I am experiencing similar issues. When attempting to stream remotely I experience constant buffering no matter what quality I stream.

A very interesting (possibly telling) fact is that if I use plex’s relay servers then everything works perfectly (albeit at a worse stream quality).

  • I am running version 1.20.1.3252 of plex media server
  • My port forwarding is NOT the issue as the canyouseeme says I am configured properly
  • I am also able to manually type in my IP address and reach my plex server from outside of the network
  • My CPU never spikes
  • My RAM never spikes
  • My upload bandwidth will sometimes spike (coinciding with remote streaming temporarily working), afterwards the upload just flat lines and the buffering resumes
  • My upload rate consistently tests at 60+ Mbps across multiple online test tools
  • My ISP has language in it’s terms of service saying they do not inspect network traffic in order to shape traffic in anyway
  • I also spun up a fresh install via Docker so I know it is not related to my OS configuration
  • The logs have no warnings or errors

The logs definitely make it look like there is a bug in the code, It seems to cycle through authenticating correctly, performing a handshake correctly, identifying the plex client, then it gets a “Content-Length is -1 (of total: -1).” log and seems to restart the cycle.

This has been INCREDIBLY frustrating and I have spent multiple nights trying to figure out why things are not working. If there are any Plex folks on this thread I would be more than happy to send them my logs to help debug. I guess for now I will revert to utilizing the relay servers since crappy streams are better than no streams.

Future thanks to ANYONE who can help me out.
