Most recent PS4 Plex update has caused many problems..

Hi all,

I had been using the Plex App for PS4 flawlessly for months and it was incredible! However, since the most recent update, I have started having numerous problems I never had before.

The first problem is the display of certain menu items results in parts of the display being cutoff. For instance, when I pull up a TV show and it displays the season tabs underneath, when I scroll over to the last season tab it is often half cutoff. I don’t know if this is related to the “anamorphic” video problem in the forums or not.

The second problem is that since the update(that added the ability to toggle watched/unwatched status), I have had constant problems with video playback stalling/hanging which then results in a general PS4 error screen popping up asking to report the problem to Sony, and then booting me out of the app. I then have to reload the app, after which it will work for a short time and then the problem repeats itself again.

The last problem is just overall sluggish performance compared with the previous version of the app. Everything is now much slower, from the loading of menu screens to the buffering of videos.

I was wondering if these problems were being reported by others as well? Also, is it possible to revert back to the previous version of the app on the PS4? It is shame because prior to this most recent update Plex app for PS4 was the first personal media streaming app I have had to date that worked absolutely perfect!

I’ve had many of the same problems since the update. The app is just not as responsive, particularly when forwarding or rewinding through an episode.
I had the error popping up too, constantly. However, uninstalling, rebooting the system and then reinstalling seems to have helped, I’ve only had the error once since then.

Yes the latest PS4 update has crashed the app.
The IOS app is also DOA when it comes to sync.
I have canceled my plex pass subscription until they figure it out.

Thanks for the replys. I haven’t tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app yet but I will give that a shot tonight. The most tv episodes I can now watch are 2-3 before the app crashes and boots me out with the error message. Hopefully reinstalling it works.

Same here! I have two PS3s’, which ran near flawlessly. No any longer!

Any idea when an update will be available?

We’ve received reports of the PS3 being especially slowed down in the last update. I’m engaging on that here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/180195/ps3-v2-4-19-navigation-gets-slower-over-time.

A fix was pushed today.

We could certainly use your PMS logs.

I haven’t seen this on the PS4. Will keep my ears open.

Which error are you talking about specifically?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the PS4 app 2 days ago and unfortunately it made no difference in the performance of the app. Usually, around the 3rd show I attempt to watch, it will terminate the app with a message screen popping up asking me to report the problem to Sony.

@mattseeley

I would be happy to turn on my logging however, I am assuming that it will have to be on my computer as I don’t believe the PS4 app has a logging option?

I will turn on my logging today and send you the logs when I am sure it has had time to log the actual problems.

Also, the fix you pushed out for the display problems, is it in the form of an update for the PS4 app or the computer server app?

Thanks

After many tries, I finally found the right combination of logins (server, server in server, and web) and now I can see my collection. However, Plex PS4 tries to play the video and after displaying a very fuzzy background image for a while, then errors out with a time-out error. Both server and PS4 are on the same network & router/switch (Apple Airport Extreme 1Gb switch using Cat6 cabling throughout) in bridge mode through a Cisco switch). Very frustrating. Works fine on App (same machine as server), web App (same machine as server), and iPad (same network, WiFi to same Apple Airport Extreme). Seems like it must be a PS4 problem but I’m not sure how to triage it further. Anyone have any suggestions for debug or fixing the problem or is it a app-bug-so-must-update-app issue on the PS4.

Thanks,
—K
