Moved Video Files to a new location now "collections" shows up blank

Server Version#:Version 1.23.1.4571
Player Version#:1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7

I moved my library content to a new folder location. I followed the guide located here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154537-move-media-content-to-a-new-location/

However even after following it and allowing it to scan my media my collections show up with cover art, but have 0 movies in them. Also all my descriptions and artwork is missing.

Only the location of the media files have changed. Everything server side is the same.

I am lost.

Sounds like you deleted the media before Plex picked up the files from the new location.
You can avoid this by disabling Plex from automatically emptying its trash after a scan. If the old items are removed before Plex is matching/associating the new files to the old items, this will not only remove the old items but also remove them from your existing collections.

I did leave the old file location and did uncheck the auto empty trash option. Is there any way to recover the metadata. All the artwork and summaries and such was manually done by me.

hmm… in that case Plex shouldn’t get into that situation – unless you had changed agents at some point after originally matching those items.
Your an try restoring your Plex Media Server from a scheduled backup (I suppose you didn’t create a dedicated manual backup of your own before migrating those files).

Is it possible to restore from a backup, its on a synology nas.

I was stupid and did not do a manual backup… very stupid.

Let’s take a look if this guide will do for you

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, it does not help.

My plex folder is blank. It looks like PLEX has it moved to some other place and I cant find its location.

I would assume some root directory, the plex guides for DSM7 are NON EXISTANT. When it comes to finding file directories or backing up.

From what I remember, DSM 7 is still in beta and Plex for DSM 7 is only available as a preview. So you might indeed be out of luck (for now).

May I be of help here?

I answered this (duplicate) in

Restoring the DB from a Backup is not yet available via the installer.
It would require manual work at the command line.

Game for it?
