Movie is added without file metadata

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409

For many years I have been using Plex on my Synology. Since I moved to a rack version of Synology I lost the ability to use hardware transcoding as Synology opted to implement cheaper cpus without gpu for business purpose.

2 months ago I started my journey to move Plex to a VM inside ESXi. It took a while until I was able to use hardware encoding again. Watching movies runs well and everything is fine with it.

But… adding new movies has issues. The file is found and added. Also the movie metadata from the internet is detected and added with a default picture. But no metadata of the file: no languages, no codec, no anything. The media info is just empty (apart from filename and size).

The movie library and Plex config is still in Synology as it takes a lot of space. The VM just runs Plex and disk space is around 4 GB.

I have been trying different mounting options: CIFS and NFS. With a lot of options enabled and disabled. All don’t work.

I have been repairing the library with no result.

For each test I copied the current library to a new share. I’m at the end of my knowledge. Is there something in the library which is synology specific coded?

I don’t run plex myself inside a VM so I’m sure others more knowledgeable than I may jump in but this jumps out in your logs…

Jan 25, 2022 20:31:23.721 [0x7f5dd7946b38] ERROR - MyPlex: mapping failed due to potential double NAT configuration
Jan 25, 2022 20:31:23.721 [0x7f5dd7946b38] DEBUG - MyPlex: mapping state set to 'Mapped - Not Published (Double NAT)'.

There are also other network related errors in your logs so I would suggest fixing that.

Edit: In this doc Synology FAQ - Questions, Answers, and a few How-To's - #35 by ChuckPa I see the following…

  • Set your network. You want to use the Host network - NOT bridged - NOT NAT .
