Movies being skipped when adding folders

Hi, I’ve added an overall MOVIES folder, and within that are 5 other folders for genres of movies.
Plex has scanned these folders a few times over the last couple of days, yet about 10-15 movies never make it to the library to be viewed. I’ve checked some of them out, they’re all about 2gb, mp4’s no silly characters in the names, so all details very similar to everything that’s been recognised.
I can play them directly on my Mac, so I’m at a loss as to why they shouldn’t show up in my Plex library alongside the others.
Is there any way to force Plex to take them on board, or if anyone has any other ideas, I’m all ears!

Thanks in advance

If you add arbitrary subfolders, you better make sure that all the files within are 100% conforming to the Plex naming guide for movies.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/

Otherwise you’ll have to add each subfolder individually to the library.
(does only work if there are no movies in the main folder as well)

Side note: arbitrary subfolders do not work at all for TV show-type libraries.

Filter your library for Duplicates, then inspect the Plex media info of those duplicated items. Chances are that you will find the missing files have been added as versions to existing items, because their file names were too indistinguishable.

There are also a few other things to be avoided in file names: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201381883-special-keyword-file-folder-exclusion/

After fixing the names, you may need to perform the Plex Dance.

Hi Otto, thanks for that, the ‘Plex Dance’ seems to have done the trick!
Movies were all named fine with no special characters, but I think all good now.
Cheers
