I have a TV Series library and a Movies library. They both point to the same folder. I’ve had it like this for a long time, never been an issue. Plex has known what to show in the Movies library and what to show in the TV Series library. But after the last update the Movies library show an item for basically every individual TV Series episode. The TV Series library still seem to be able to understand what files are movies and not show them there. Certainly you have not made an update where you are going to tell me that I have to put my movie and tv show episode files in separate folders all of a sudden? That would be disappointing.
I saw a separate thread mention that the latest version is not adding new episodes/shows for TV, I have that issue as well. New episodes don’t appear in the TV Shows library, they do appear as individual items in the Movies library though.
Is there a way to downgrade to a previous version of Plex?
Plex has always strongly recommended keeping TV and Movies in separate folders. I think you’ve been extremely lucky to have gotten this far without issues.
On a second look, it actually seems like it is not the case that “the Movies library show an item for basically every individual TV Series episode”, rather it is showing an item for every TV Series episode that doesn’t appear in the TV Shows library. So I guess it is related to this thread: 1.32.1.6999 not adding new episodes/shows for TV
I hope/guess that if/when that is solved I will continue to be “extremely lucky”.
I ended up downgrading from v1.32.1.6999-91e1e2e2c to v1.32.0.6973-a787c5a8e for now. Had to re-create my Movies library, but now it’s all working again. Guess I’ll have to stay on this version for a while now…
I’d recommend taking this as an opportunity to correct your libraries’ organization. You’re already having to rebuild your movie library, why not move those out into their one dedicated folder structure (beside what remains for the TV folder) at the same time? It will leave your libraries in an overall better state moving forward.
Sure, I could do that, but since my library is very fluid with new episodes and movies being added and removed from 1 source folder multiple days a week, organizing them this way would mean having to copy paste them to separate movie and tv show folders multiple times a day, while rebuilding the library is simply just selecting “Movies” and pointing to that 1 source folder in Plex and then it’s all done.
Huh? Why would that be the case? Just save them in the appropriate locations to begin with. For Plex to operate the way most people expect, the root folders for each library type must be separated. As @beckfield said, to this point you’ve been extremely lucky.
Make no mistake, I understand your reasoning. The way you’ve been doing things of been working fine for you up until now. Plex released a new version and it “broke,” so it must be their fault. Right? And it’s completely possible that the next version which is release will make everything irie again. But that just means that the organization of your media is unsupported and unexpected things can happen. It’s virtually guaranteed that it will “break” again in the future. If you follow the naming and organization guidelines, at least you can rest comfortably knowing that you’ve done all you can to help your server scan and catalog your media appropriately.
Don’t do it for us, do it for yourself. Fix your folder structure. You’ll thank yourself later.
