I have a feeling that they enabled channel id matching so it pulled them together. so both those channels would appear as one channel but meant Plex has more tuners available for the channel. I dont know if they have given a way to split the channels manually though. if you are using xml is it possible to change the channel name slightly for the 4K tuner so Plex doesnt merge the channels?
Yeah, was wondering that myself. Before, I was able to “trick” the EPG, by using my cable card EPG and then when adding my OTA tuner, I would map those to the Cable Channels (i.e. 11.1 NBC would be mapped to 1011 NBC on Cable EPG). Was hoping with this update I could have the option of both, even if duplicate channels (OTA looks much better and now comcast is compressing local channels to 720p h.264). The OTA is still 1080i and higher bitrate.
PS Even when Comcast didn’t compress local broadcast and it was 1080i, I did a comparison and on average, OTA had about 3-4 mb/s more data and the picture was much clearer/sharper and less microblocking…
yeah streaming compression seems much higher with lower bitrate than what you get with OTA. I remember when BBC (UK) launched their HD channel during testing the bitrate was amazing and the detail in the images was superb. Almost akin to 4K nowadays on streaming channels. As soon as there started to be more HD channel offerings the bitrate noticably dropped.
Hopefully Plex will add function to split merged channels
Agreed. I still remember 1080i mpeg-2 HD from the early days (2002?) and it was stunning how clear it was. Probably a 30+ mb/s stream because there were only 4 HD channels then!
Unfortunate that I still have to use the multiple web browser tab workaround in order to add an XMLTV link for xTeve. Choosing a country that isn’t supported like Latvia, does not give the custom XMLTV option, nor does entering “00000” as a zip code.
Currently have an HDHR and I always set that up first so it can be the first “Live TV & DVR” library for my Home users; after setting it up in the nifty looking window, the option for adding one’s own EPG is gone for setting up another tuner.
After finally setting this up with the workaround, only the EPG for the first tuner (HDHR) is visible in Settings> Live TV and DVR.
I tried the opposite and set up xTeve first with the XMLTV location, then chose to Add Another Device when attempting to add the OTA tuner I am only given the option to add an XMLTV guide with no zip code for local option.
Reverting back to an older PMS build.
Checked again and somehow it did show the two different channels (11.1 NBC – OTA tuner) and (1011 NBC --Cable Card Tuner) when I tried to add Meet the Press to schedule. For whatever reason, SNL didn’t show both. Either way, looks good now.
Another issue that would be nice to fix is it seems to map the cable channels to the nearest EPG channels for the area (for example, comcast in my area is re-broadcasting network tv channels in the 200’s, 800’s, and 1000’s. Not sure why they are being redundant?
Anyway, I excluded those duplicates from my HD Homerun lineup, so that it only shows the 1000’s, but Plex remapped them all over the place (in the 200s)? Would be nice to manually be able to use the correct channel numbers with the correct EPG channel number (if that makes sense?)
This is awesome. Can’t wait to now have MULTIPLE tuners to select from that don’t stream for more than a few minutes without freezing, audio issues or…at all.
I don’t have any issues. What is your plex player you are are having issues with?
Chromecast with GTV, Firestick.
I am not sure about chromecast, but I have had spotty issues too with my Firestick 4k.
For me, Nvidia Shield(s), Samsung Note 20 Ultra, and various PC/Mac apps work fine. Interesting to see that different clients react differently?
Just so I’m clear here – in order to get this feature, we have to delete and re-add the DVR, right? Will this lose all our scheduled recordings so we have to re-add those, like the last DVR update? If so, that’s a pain, especially now that some of these shows have gone off for the season, and you can only add shows to record that are in the guide somewhere…
no your scheduled recordings should stay. I have deleted and recreated my DVR a fair few times and not lost my scheduled recordings
That’s a relief. With no “smart recording by keyword” functionality, it’s difficult to re-add shows that have gone off the air for the season once they’ve been removed. You basically have to remember what shows you wanted to record, and keep an eye on third-party sources for information about when they’re coming back.
This feature is fantastic, but why is there no option to add an EPG to an existing DVR? I just went through recreating my DVR due to the EPG source change at the beginning of this year. It would also be nice to allow for a backup and restore of channel lineups.
yes it would be nice to see some kind of show tracking in Plex or even TiVo style searches
not quite sure what you mean by add an EPG to an existing DVR? You cant have a DVR set up without an EPG. Do you mean add a new tuner/separate EPG to the DVR? If so then you can do this using the new DVR update, although they are still ironing out a few issues with mixed Plex EPG/XMLTV environments.
You can only add additional lineups to a device when you initially set it up. You can’t add additional lineups to an existing device once it has been setup, without deleting the entire DVR (you also can’t delete an individual device as far as I can tell), which is what I think they’re asking for.
I have upgraded to the latest version can see the new DVR features. I’m referring to adding an additional EPG to an existing DVR. Deleting and recreating a DVR, especially with multiple tuners, can be very time consuming.
Great news! I am a little confused. I use usb OTA tuners along with a HDHomerun Prime. I was expecting to see those channels mixed together in the same guide. Instead I got two different guides. One for the cable channels from HDHomerun and one with the OTA channels from the usb tuners. Am I doing something wrong or is that how it’s supposed to work ?
