Music not showing up in Library

As I’m working through my cds converting them all to mp3 & adding them to my Plex library, I’m noticing that some albums are missing a number of tracks from the library & others are completely missing.

If I view my music library by folder I am able to navigate to the specific folder but the missing tracks are not showing up in these folders. If I navigate to the folder in Finder the tracks are there, they are also included in my Swinsian library where I am able to play them back with no issue. For some reason Plex is not acknowledging them.

All cds are being ripped with the same software on the same setting & I’m being very careful with my naming & tagging, I’m also making sure I have a good folder structure - Artist>Album>Tracks

I’ve tried moving the folders out of view of Plex, rescanning the library & moving the folders back again then rescanning in the hope they will show up. This has not worked for me.

Any help is appreciated.

PMS 1.0.2.2413 running on OSX 10.11.6

I should have stated this is a Premium Music Library

Since you are very careful with naming and tagging, it is maybe a good idea to not rely on Gracenote identifying your music and albums.

for configuring the metadata agents for this scenario

further info on tagging and file naming

After you made the changes to the agents config, you may want to Plex Dance the problematic albums. (With music you can actually leave out step 4 of the Dance)

I worked through your suggestions, my metadata agents were already set the same way so I went ahead and performed the Plex dance with one of my folders where some songs were showing up and others weren’t.

Unfortunately it did not work for me.

I’ve attached screenshots of what my Plex library shows, what I see if I view my music library by folder then select that particular folder, what I see if I navigate to that folder in Finder & how the tracks are tagged.

I can see nothing wrong in these screenshots.
What happens if you don’t view your music library ‘by folder’, but ‘by Artist’ instead?

Are there any other files in that Album folder, besides the .cue file?
Are you using .plexignore files?

What happens if you update to PMS 1.0.3 ?

I may require logfiles for further diagnosis.

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. empty the log folder
  5. start Plex Server
  6. wait 2 minutes
  7. Plex Dance one album
  8. wait 5 minutes
  9. shut down Plex server
  10. wait 1 minute
  11. zip up the whole log folder and attach it here or send it to me per PM

Bonus points for a download link with some example files which exhibit the faulty behaviour.

This seems unlikely in your case, since you’ve been ripping with the same settings, etc., but you never know, so - Are the file permissions consistent on all the files in the folder?

@beckfield - Yeah, permissions was my first thought too. I checked them and there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with them.

@OttoKerner What happens if you view by artist?

I’ve attached a screenshot of the Soulfly artist page. You can see that there is a total of 8 albums in there, there should be 10 - 8 mp3 albums & 2 flac albums. It is missing Conquer & Omen. Of the 8 albums it is showing, all tracks are present & correct in all albums but Prophecy.

Are there any other files in that Album folder, besides the .cue file?

Yes, there is a .log file created when I ripped the cd.

Are you using .plexignore files?

No

What happens if you update to PMS 1.0.3 ?

There is no difference.

PM sent with relevant files & links to download the Prophecy folder, there are at least 5 other cds I have ripped so far that are either missing files or the whole cd won’t show up.

EDIT: I forgot to add the screenshot :">

I confirmed the issue on my server.
I forwarded your files to the developers.

Ok

Thanks

This is still a problem in PMS 1.1.1.2675
