I’m home and I’m trying to watch a movie on my WD PR4100. I’m seating very close to my server though you can see Russia from here. It’s not that I’m on some remote location. My upload speed is more than 50MB/s and download is at over 75MB/s. Plex player had the nerve to tell me my network connection isn’t fast enough. I’m not supposed to use internet data to watch movie on Plex on my wired network. I’m not using a wireless laptop. I’m on my own network and Plex cannot direct play and treat my media files as local. What good is Plex for? Guys, no Plex Pass, Fast NAS, and strong internet upload/download speed gonna make life better. The real enemy is Plex. Plex is the real problem.
Plex should simply be a Media Library to let you arrange your stuffs in an orderly fashion. They shouldn’t have to affect my connection or have anything to do with how I play my files. Simply give my chosen player direct access, direct control.
Plex will work on that setup. you obviously have a setting wrong, but people need more info to help.
Lots of professional from the WD FORUM said they don’t use Plex to watch remotely and they don’t even use it locally. Simply access the file from the drive the old fashion way. I’m gonna treat Plex as the Media Library to arrange and quickly see what I have, then use my own player locally to access that file. Sometimes you don’t always benefit from something you invest in. As of now the Plex Pass is useless, and anything I can do that satisfy me with WD PR4100, EX4 does is just as good when Plex is removed from the equation. I’m gonna try Qnap to see if I can do more without Plex being involved. [-X
@ Jeff
I have my WD PR4100 connected to my ASUS wireless as well as my PC. Just simple connection.
A Pic of my simple Network.
What are you using for your server, what are you using for your client.
Plex does not use the internet to stream locally if you are setup correctly.
Did you read the Support area to make sure everything is setup properly?
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us
I don’t understand about what I use for my server. Just plex to stream.
Pic one of the web side
This is the server side. The only thing I change is remote quality to original because I always use my Windows laptop remotely for things windows can handle and use my ipad and iphone to watch movies from the MP4 folder. I never had a need to convert anything remotely.
Sorry, i made an error in my first post - Plex DOES NOT use the internet to stream locally.
What are you using to play you video from Plex?
Just now before I started this post, I was trying the Plex Web.
Did this just start? You have 237 posts here and you are just now saying that you are getting that message?
Sound alike you will need to post logs. Search for how to post logs in the support area that I linked to above.
Before with the EX4, I had the “Not Powerful Enough” but at home, I never had problem watching before. It’s just with the new PR4100.
The not powerful was only when I use my iPad to watch MKV then I realize I had to go to my MP4. I never had problem playing remotely or locally using my EX4. That’s why I always voiced my opinion about such a great server such as EX4 had to be discontinued. It’s been a true champ.
I think what’s being asked, is:
You installed Plex Media Server (PMS) somewhere - what device/platform did you install that on?
What are you using as a client? ie: what’s plugged in to your TV that you’re trying to view videos on?
I gather, from the pictures, that you’ve got PMS installed on the WD MyCloud NAS device (name on LCD shows MyCloudPR4100 - the same name that appears in the Friendly Name field on the PMS Server config screen.
I’m no expert on running PMS on the WD NAS, but you’ll probably find better help in here https://forums.plex.tv/categories/western-digital
I installed the Plex Media Server on my WD PR4100. I’m using the Plex Web Client that installed direct on the server to watch the movie Flashdance using my PC Dell XPS i7 32GB ram and is connected to my 4K 55 inches Samsung TV via HDMI.
I’m going to try my Plex windows app right now. While I was at work, I was using the new web app which looks nice, but had connection problem. I’m gonna try the Plex downloaded from Windows store right now.
The Windows Plex App went much further but just when I thought =D> I got a message saying, “We’re having problem playing this file,… check my setup” something close. These are files I used to play in their original form. I don’t wanna change quality at home. I feel like I have a movie theater at home and I don’t wanna downscale anything.
This pic has a little info about the movie. The only thing is the audio is DTS and I know Windows Plex App plays them before.
