It would be cool, of course, to be able to back up Plex with Hyper Backup.
But I think that won’t come?

DSM 7’s architecture isolates apps from each other.
Because HyperBackup is a Synology app, they would need make special accommodations to backup an app’s internal data. (New feature addition)
Such a request is a big “ask”. I can’t speak for them nor can I even predict what their reply to such a request might be.
Thanks for your great work ChuckPa!
Is it currently possible to migrate a Plex Server from a Qnap NAS to a Diskstation with DSM7?
Are there any recommendations if you are already beyond PMS 3744 on DSM6? I am currently at 1.21.1.3759. I have switched to the public channel and I am not installing anything new…
I will entertain that discussion after PMS on DSM 7 is more stable.
This is a “Preview” (Developer Alpha) level product. It is not yet Beta or Release Candidate. DSM 7 has been public beta for only a few days. Please allow me the time to complete my work.
With ample Linux skills, it is possible. Do I advise it for anyone to do at this point? No.
Remain on DSM 6 until further notice.
You are not missing out on anything.
Hi, Chuck
After a few days of use, I notice that the version you gave me (PlexMediaServer-1.21.0.3744-d87012962-aarch64_DSM7) uses my NAS RAM too much by generating preview thumbnails
I’d like to try the next version, please, can you give me the link to download it?
best regards
Go into the Advanced setting for each Library section.

Hi,
thanks for the tip, actually my NAS is back to normal just like Plex
Best regards
Hi, @ChuckPa
I’ll come back to you, report a bug in Plex.
All the 1h-1h15 Plex crashes and restarts.
Nothing is lost, there is possibility to resume the film but this bug
thank you for coming back
After reading this thread I would like to express my thanks to @ChuckPa. Synology should have delayed their release a bit longer to ensure that partners like Plex had what they needed.
Though Synology haven’t released DSM 7 yet as it’s still in beta
Synology released a beta for people to try. No one forced anyone to update. Not synologys or Plex fault, only the end users who choose to update without checking.
I will thank everyone to remain calm.
Nothing seen here is in FINAL FORM.
(it’s a Beta. A bit of common sense please?)
The ONLY thing being missed out on is a WORLD OF HURT.
The anticipated release of DSM 7 is mid-2021 – there is no need to rush.
That’s true, but I think the frustration expressed by users upgrading anyway suggests that it could have been handled better.
I’m sorry?
That makes no sense. It’s like riding a bike and putting a stick in the front wheel then blaming the bike after you fall over.
Final request:
Drop it please?
Just wanted to say thank you for the great work, did the update and all is working fine.
And indeed this is all in a testing fase, as you said no one forced anyone in updating to DSM 7.
I was wondering what would be best on my nas (Synology Ds920+ running DSM 7) the DSM package or running Plex in docker?
I am, naturally, biased to the native app. IMHO, Docker is a wrapper which adds a layer of abstraction and wastes CPU on a CPU-limited device.
While it will take me a bit longer, due to all the package overhauling, to get everything there, you will have everything you did on DSM 6.
I do not know the status of Docker Plex but I can guess it is NOT fully functional.
We do have hardware transcoding here (less the HDR capability). I don’t think Docker has that yet.
