Need help. I have done the permission changes for the Plex Media Server, uninstalled, reinstalled the PLEX pkg multiple times, restarted my Synology DS918+ multiple times.
On plex.tv I see all my previous folders and such with the yellow triangle with the exclamation point.
I have read through so many articles and they all have the same steps, nothing changes. Really frustrated right now.
I think I fixed it. I reloaded all my folders and it’s scanning everything back into PLEX. Almost done at this point.
Then I went into Authorized Devices and deleted the DSM 6 “server” that was still there. I have the DSM 7 server working now. I am not sure what happened.
I just don’t know why when I installed DSM 7 and then the new PLEX pkg it never truly “migrated” over anything that I kept reading about everyone else doing.
Yes, I hit repair. I believe that’s where the problem started but I saw all the other information after.
At this point I have deleted the older “authorized server” that was DSM 6. something and the DSM 7 is almost done indexing everything. Only thing I really don’t have is the Playlists I had, which isn’t much, and a few movies over time that don’t exactly match the right way.
I don’t want to even TRY and repair anything. My biggest issue is the people that I share PLEX with. I’m hoping deleting that older server will remove all those greyed out folders and since I shared the new folders with them it only shows them those.
I’m not say this to you… but I am posting this for the benefit of all those who think DSM 7 is a transparent and automagic upgrade – which , as you know, is NOT.
I’ve had this posted in the forums since PMS on DSM 7 Beta was available
I’m shocked at how many don’t read first given the hours spent curating posters and metadata.
Please read the post.
Please search and find “Packaging 2.0” as that details PMS now with DSM 7 in final form.
Hello, ChuckPa!
The guiadance you provided here helped me to fix my Plex Server on DSM 7 as well. But while everything is smooth now in my LAN, I completely lost external access. Already had port forwarding on 32400 set ok in my router but now, even after a clean Plex Server install I still get the same: a forever processing wheel with “Connecting Server” or, if I force the external port to 32400, I inform green for like 10 seconds and switch back to red “no external access”… any guidance, please? Thank you in advance!
Hi ChuckPa… I just continued trying and it seems that I got it fixed
There were two things:
Even having UPnP correctly set, I could see that it went green for around 10-15 seconds and get back to red. And, during this time I saw in my router that the external port that UPnP was always triggering was 15030 (not sure why, maybe my ISP was blocking 32400 externaly.
So I went ahead and set a port forwarding (virtual server) this time between 32400 (int) and 15030 (ext)… but was not enought… then the step 2.
Since I have a load-balance router with two different ISP arriving on it (2 WANs), I wondered that the fact that the proper conection was stablished to fall after a few seconds, could be by the fact that returning packages from Plex Services might be also arriving per the different external IP of the other WAN. So I went ahead and created a static route for my Synology fixed IP to use only one of the WANs…
It went green to external and is stable since last night
Now, since I don’t have a dedicated external/valid IP Address with y ISPs, I wonder what will happend when the modem renew the IP and a new external one get assigned :-/
Let’s see.
I know that there was not much science involved, but, so far so good.
Thank you very much for your availability and quick response!
Hello,
I use Plex on a DS918+.
Installed DSM 7.0.1-42218 (from DSM 6) without being aware of difficulties to come.
Then used the misleading “repair” option for Plex, still being completely unaware of the problems to come.
Correct also the permissions (for ‘system internal user’).
Now, I can access without my collections, with all the metadata.
The only (and big) issue is that it seems metadata associated to new added video are not merged with previous metadata. As a result, and for example, a filter on a given actor provides two results :
a list of the videos with this actor in the collection before the added videos, and another, distinct list with the same actor in the recently added videos.
Looking with the ‘File Station’, there is still the original ‘Volume1/Plex’ folder, which includes for instance the sub folder ‘Volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server’, whose properties show a contain of 7.88GB, 176645 files and 147064 folders.
There is also the new folder ‘Volume1/PlexMediaServer’, which contains ‘Volume1/PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server’, whose properties show a contain of 8.62GB, 182127 files and 147315 folders.
Please, is there a way to fix this? Thanks
Hello ChuckPa!
I am also sorry to bring back this migration issue, despite all your communication efforts.
The problem is that I was not aware / did not read your post before making the upgrade,
so that the error is made (“repair”).
So I do not understand/know from where to start in your advices to cope with this error.
Hi ChuckPa
Please forget my previous messages. I finally understood your guidance in this particular case, i.e.,
Uninstall/Erase PMS, which was safe because the previous metadata were still in place in Plex;
after correcting permissions, I reinstalled PMS (for DSM7), and now it works (most stuff deleted from Plex, but for the log file).
Thanks.
