NEEDS FIXING: Translations missing in Norwegian and Swedish with the new Plex TV Series agent - only showing English despite translations being available on TVDB and TMDB

That’s very odd, the data is already in our system since 2 weeks ago, I’ll take a look and see what the issue is. I assume it happens for all the shows you mentioned in the first post of this thread?

Library is set to Norwegian.
Library is set to use original titles.
Library is set to prefer artwork based on library language.
Library has “Updated all metadata”, no fields are locked.

These series below are only found on TVDB (not TMDB) and PTVS does only download the English metadata from TVDB (titles in English, descriptions in English).
330 Skvadronen
Bjørnøya
Exit Nordpolen
Familiefryd
Hagen min (PTVS doesn’t collect all available artwork)
Helt Ramm
Jens i villmarka
Karsten og Leif
Monsen minutt for minutt
Oppdrag Nord-Norge
Prosjekt Perfekt
Puckers
Sundby mot verden
Verdens minste kommentatorboks

These series below are found on both TVDB and TMDB (in Norwegian) but PTVS is only showing metadata from TMDB. Missing some artwork from TVDB and no episode title, artwork or descriptions in Norwegian even though they are present at TVDB (and sometimes even TMDB as well).

These series below are found on both TVDB and TMDB, but only in English on TMDB and in Norwegian on TVDB. PTVS is only downloading English metadata from TMDB.
71° nord
Der ingen skulle tru att nokon kunne bu
Velkommen til Utmark (I just added the Norwegian translation to TMDB)

These series is found on both TVDB and TMDB in Norwegian. But PTVS is downloading metadata in English from TVDB. Artwork from TVDB.
Kaserneliv
Landskampen (series cast is really good on TVDB but this isn’t showed at all?)

This series, Trekant, is showing the correct artwork for the series (fetched from TMDB) but series description is from this film (?!)

There is also problems with Swedish metadata from TVDB:
Här är ditt kylskåp (PTVS can’t find this at all…)
Kalles sex liv (doesn’t even show any artwork)
Landet lyckopiller (PTVS can’t find this at all…)
I huvudet på Gunde Svan (shows artwork from the series Äntligen hemma mixed with the correct artwork.
Kärlek & Anarki (shows English title and description and English artwork)
Skärgårdsdoktorn (missing artwork from TVDB)
Tinas julkök (only on TVDB so PTVS is only downloading meta in English)
Tinas sommarkök (only on TVDB so PTVS is only downloading meta in English)

etc etc.

EDIT: This is off course in a library set to Swedish.

Any insight on this @adriana ?

@adriana or @drzoidberg33, any news on this issue with the new PTVS?

I’ll just keep posting here so the topic keeps on top because this issue really needs fixing!

I took a look at 6 examples from your list:

There seems to be some issue where we’re not pulling in the correct title even though we have it. A workaround I’ve found is to just set “Use original title” on the library or the show:

As for summaries for the shows that only exist on TVDB I don’t think we pull in translations for these yet from TVDB (I’ll have to defer to @adriana here).

I’ve brought up the title issue and will find out what’s going on there.

Did you read my post #23 and #24?

I have the libraries set to “Use original titles” and that is working for series that have an entry on both TMDB and TVDB. Not for series that exist only on TVDB, for those PTVS is pulling English metadata like the old agent did.

These series below are only found on TVDB (not TMDB) and PTVS does only download the English metadata from TVDB (titles in English, descriptions in English).

Prosjekt Perfekt (correct title, English description) (EDIT: it was only correct due to it being wrongly entered with the Norwegian title as English title in TVDB, I’ve corrected it now)

@adriana said it should:

I’m not sure then why it’s not working. This is something Adriana will have to look at, I’ll ask her to take a look next week.

Thanks for making the effort to provide all the info we need. Hope we can get this working better for you.

I have also tested some old and new norwegian series. The agent has problems with fetching episode titles in norwegian. Main series title/synopsis is sometimes fetched OK in norwegian but episode info and titles default to english. I have verified that info is correct on thetvdb.com. I also have noticed that shows that previously had norwegian info for the episodes now are fetched in english.
Themoviedb and thetvdb.com has different support for the two norwegian language variants. Could this be the cause? Hope this can be fixed since right now it’s a mix of english and norwegian.

What did @adriana say?

It’s being worked on but there are just a few nuances around Norwegian language codes and different codes being used across different sources.

We’ll update this thread when there is something to share.

It’s not just Norwegian, Swedish is also still having problems.
For example:
Kärlek & Anarki (shows English title and description and English artwork)
Tinas julkök (only on TVDB so PTVS is only downloading meta in English)
Tinas sommarkök (only on TVDB so PTVS is only downloading meta in English)

The fix for Norwegian translations coming from TVDB went out today, I recommend doing a metadata refresh tomorrow to get the new values (some shows may still be returned from our cache today).

I’ve identified the bug that’s affecting this title and it’s on our list of issues that we’re working on.

These two look fine on my end, I’m not sure what you mean that the agent is only downloading English data. Do you have “Use original titles” set by any chance?

Ok! I’ll do a metadata refresh in the Norwegian library tomorrow and see. :+1:

No, I haven’t got the library set to use original titles. It downloads Swedish titles fine for most objects. The problem with these two above is that if I try to re-match or update their metadata I see it in Swedish in the pop up search window but when I hit download it fetches the English metadata. None of the fields are locked in the edit section.

Works fine here:

Just check that you haven’t set the language on the show itself by editing the show and going to advanced and looking for these two options:

Thanks! That was it! For some reason Metadata language was set to English (US). Strange considering the library was recently created with Swedish as library language. :man_shrugging:

Now I cross my fingers and hope that Norwegian will work as well!

@adriana @drzoidberg33 Seems like there’s a bug here. All the Norwegian series above that didn’t fetch Norwegian metadata originally when the library was created, seem to be stuck with English (US) as Metadata language in the advanced settings. So updating the metadata doesn’t do any difference without manually changing every entry to Library Standard.

Even after changing the metadata language the “title”, “sort title” and “original title fields” need manually editing because it doesn’t change from English. I’v tried both un-match+re-match and just update metadata withe the same result.

EDIT: It’s mostly series that are only present on TVDB and most of them I created myself so I know they aren’t added with the wrong language in the database.

Also:
After manually editing “title”, “sort title” and “original title fields” to the Norwegian title AND changing Metadata language to Library Standard, if I un-lock those fields and refresh metadata PTVS changes those fields back to English titles. So something is definitely still broken.

There is something else wrong if that’s happening. You should just be able to set that back to Library Default and save. If that is not sticking after the save then I’ll need to get server logs from you to see what’s causing that.
