New Certificate on Plex (*.plex.tv) blocking PS3 from accessing anything (dead as a dodo)

Movian App its the solución.

Why is it “not possible” to submit an update for the app?

I’m another user who primarily connects from PS3 who’s really, really disappointed that you just bricked the app with no warning, essentially forcing me into purchasing another device if I want to keep making use of Plex.

A guess is that the PS3 itself has very old SSL/TLS or CA support, and cannot connect to secure servers with modern certificates.

Or perhaps the PS3 may not support TLS 1.2.

(Edit - plus, all of the comments below about Sony ending support for those devices!)

If it were an issue related to the PS3 itself, they’d say that (and it would be a hard no on ever getting the app up and running again)—not that they can’t submit an update.

Sony has effectively stopped supporting the PS3. They originally planned to shut down the PSN Store for it a couple of weeks ago but relented after outcry from gamers and the press. New game submission is shut down, and I think it’s safe to say they’re not taking patches either. Even the Vita only has a few more weeks for developers to get new games in.

So if Sony’s not taking patches (or really anything else) for the PS3, there’s not much Plex can do. They literally can’t submit patches if Sony won’t take them. The PS3 is dead to Sony, if you want to keep using it for media you’re either going to have to use the DLNA functionality or see what options you have with custom firmware.

I believe ps3 has already been deprecated for years now.

Roku has devices that literally cost less than a decent dinner for 2, and would bring you better ongoing support for plex and many other streaming providers.

Yes, they ceased support of the PS3 app a few years ago, which I’m sure everyone still using the PS3 app is aware of. But there’s a huge difference between “this won’t get new features” and “we’re going to brick the app entirely with not just no warning but not even any communication about it as it happens, until a bunch of you show up to bug us about what exactly is going on.”

Like most other people who’d been counting on the PS3 app remaining functional, I’ve resigned myself to this probably not ever getting fixed and taken steps to find alternate routes to being able to stream to every device I want to. But Plex’s entire handling of this has been disappointing from start to finish. Even when they’ve finally given us confirmation of exactly what’s happening, they’re still not communicating clearly. And when what I—and many others—want is specific information from Plex, your speculation is absolutely useless.

And @androvsky, the PS3 itself is certainly not getting a lot of attention from Sony, but it’s not abandoned, either—I just had a system update pushed recently.

Unfortunately Rokus don’t play dvd/bluray & CD and as far as I can tell don’t have optical outs. So it’s going to more than simply plugging one in if I want to replace the ps3 in my older system.

Add me to the list of unsatisfied customers. The ease of use with the PS3 is one of the reasons I chose the plex platform. Word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool, but it works both ways.

I gave up and bought a Roku Stick+ as I hated the Chromecast since it wouldn’t work with my soundbar and it will disconnect if idle for a few minutes. I wish I didn’t have to, but it was the best solution.

tested today, but by accident, and now it didn’t complain, well, it didn’t find my server, but it’s offline,
I got pass the login that was malfunction…
is it working now? or was the only a fluke?

Mine has started to work again, can somebody else confirm this?

Can confirm Plex works again for me. I’m actually shocked that you guys at Plex cared enough to get Plex working again on such an old console, I really am impressed. I can now continue to steam my shows and movies to my old CRT tv on Plex so thank you very much for the work.
