I must admit with the experience of the last few weeks where the guide data is un-usable for certain channels I would rather have recordings take place missing the S/E data rather than having either no recording, a partial recording or a recording for something completely different.
The other benefit of over the air data is the notification of when programs are about to start and finish. I know it doesn’t happen that often but it is incredible useful for those scenarios where programs start late because of live events or extended sports coverage, or when the schedule is moved around at the last minute by the broadcaster. An episode of “Have I got news for you” was cancelled by the BBC because of impartiality in the European Elections, a couple months back, and Plex recorded “Mrs Brown’s Boys” instead as that was bought forward 30 minutes
There’s a feature request here but unfortunately it doesn’t have many votes at present.
proper OTA data is much better, if everything else can pull it in, Plex should be able to also. I’ve set Tvheadend to refresh every 12 hours, so far it’s kept to its end of the bargain.
Tonight will be the clincher when I finally point Plex to the new Hdhomerun emulator cashed Antennas, which seems to see Tvheadend without any issues
Wherever you ask if to, there’s a list, I’m trying TVGuide at the moment and it’s got everything for me may try one more guide to see how that collects the data then I’ll be going live with it… Should be fun
I agree - I think Plex should integrate it with the current EPG data, like Microsoft did with Windows Media Center. It could either be: automatic, a global user option or a per channel option like you say.
Then like I mentioned we get the benefit of real-time start/stop information, as well, and we don’t have to worry about start 2 minutes early, end 2 minutes late kind of configuration!
@JCHH that software is dvbviewer, not sure if it’s multi platform or not, it’s my 3rd backup dvr software
@captain_caveman2k in nextpvr it is done per channel, I find if useful for some channels that get no data provided, the column here where it mentions Schedules Direct & DVB/ATSC EPG is a drop down to select the source for each channel
I tried Zap2It (US), it was easy enough to setup, but traded one set of issues for another. The main issue I have with the native EPG is marking shows new when they aren’t. So causes some un-needed checking and watching. I can live with that.
Zap2It looked really promising, but whether because of them or how Plex deals with the xml file, there are shows that are supposed to record daily, but only the first instance ever shows up to record. That is a worse problem.
I am happy to test out something else you guys recommend that’s Windows based, otherwise I’ll just deal with it. It’s not like this is a $50/mo service.
I loaded Emby server (again) last night just to play around. I still like the Plex UI better.
PBS, 11.1/11.2 WTTW in Chicago, Chicago Tonight. Airs M-Th at various times. I pick either the 7PM or 10PM showing. When I tried Zap2It this weekend, all that would ever show as being recorded was the Mon show. Set to new and repeat airings. @markmarz was able to replicate it. See my previous post in this thread #278
Quite makes me think of they’ve got priorities right? Ah new features overrule existing issues elsewhere… So before I go off on a tangent, I’m leaving it there…
