I switched back to the Plex EPG. Chicago Tonight comes in ok, but all the incorrect new tags are still there. Not a huge deal, but I too am disappointed when changes like this are made where things worked fine before.
My disappointment or dissatisfaction with all of this comes mainly from the fact that they pushed it out to the stable channel and cancelled the old guide before everything was working properly.
Itās not like they didnāt know there were major problems as the forums had plenty of feedback, and itās not like it was an obscure problem that was hard to duplicate. Yet they went forward with it anyway.
Working with static content you can have a bit of a lax attitude toward bugs because the content is still there when you fix the problem, but with Live DVR recording you have to get it right the fist time or else you piss off a lot of people when you fail. Thereās usually no do over when you miss the recording.
Sometimes it feels like Plex treats this as their side hobby and if people enjoy the results then thatās good. Just donāt start āexpectingā things from them.
The expecting things is long past. At times they seem responsive, but then nothing gets done, at least not in any reasonable timeframe. At other times (like now) @sa2000 was seemingly responsive, but has not posted anything for about 5 days.
I assume they have a TON on their plate looking at the constant torrent of new posts. Would be nice for them to pull back for a couple months, forget about working on any new features, and try to get the existing ones bug free.
I use Plex TV in the UK to record free to air movies only. SInce the guide switch, movies on ITV2 and ITV4 only get half recorded. They have always been shown in the guide as separated by a small Movie Update feature but the previous guide used to handle this and record the movie both before and after that split. Now the Plex guide is showing it as set to record but never picks up the second half.
As you can see from the two screenshots below, I have set Get Carter (a fabulous movie btw) to record and the first screen grab shows it set up correctly but the next one shows it finishing after an hour - i.e first half only.
Bullitt, set for later on ITV4 looks like it will do the same. Movies on Sony Movies (which has the same kind of elongated break) handles it fine.
I tell ya⦠@sa2000 as well⦠the easiest way to get people to stop complaining, maybe, about these little quirks that may take months to figure out or may never be sorted out, is to give us manual record capability.
I want to record ch 2.1 at 8AM for 2 hours every Saturday, for example. Regardless of what the guide may show as new, across multiple entries, whatever, and then let me assign the right metadata to that recording if possible.
I love The Worldās End!
Hi everyone, like the rest of you Iām in the same position regarding the ānewā EPG, but if like me you live in the UK then we may be able to do something about it. In my case I like to record Holby City and Casualty both on BBC1 and BBC1HD. Now regardless of the whys and wherefores of the mess that is setting up a recording, just basic EPG information is plainly wrong.
For example, the new episode of Holby City being shown next week on Tuesday should be S21 Ep30 āDonāt Leave Meā as shown here by the BBC:
However, the Plex EPG is saying that this episode is S4 Ep11 āDonāt Leave Meā as seen here:
which gave me all the problems with trying to record new episodes.
The new EPG is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE and as a consequence, in UK Law we have a right of redress and a way of getting some if not all of our money back thanks to The Consumer Rights Act 2015 as long as you made your purchase (Plex Pass, lifetime or otherwise) after 1st October 2015. Unfortunately if you bought your Plex Pass before that date the law doesnāt give you clear rights.
In the first instance you should send an email to Plex and it should include the following:
āUnder the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content should be of a satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
My rights have been breached because the digital content you sold me is faulty. I would like you to fix it within a reasonable time.ā
I also suggest that you send it to their legal department and tell them that you are from the UK in your email. The Plex contact page is here.
Remember, this is only the first step. Then see what they have to say.
I got this information from Citizens Advice and their website has full details of what you can do and your rights under the Act. Go here to see the full page.
Just sent my email to Plex Legal and is shown below. Hope this helps.
Hi,
Iām writing to you because of the changes and consequent problems caused by the roll out of the new Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) within Plex since 1st July 2019.
Since that time the EPG has been nothing short of a disaster with wrong and inaccurate details of programmes and as such is not fit for purpose.
I live in the United Kingdom and and as a result have rights under The Consumer Rights Act 2015. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content should be of a satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. The current EPG is certainly none of these.
My rights have been breached because the digital content you sold me is faulty. I would like you to fix it within a reasonable time. If you fail to fix it within a reasonable time, then I will seek a refund from you for my Lifetime Plex Pass, which I purchased from you 2nd March 2017.
Did you get your Plex newsletter today?
It would be interesting to know the % of people on these forums with issues vs. the total subscribers. Maybe we are in quite a small minority.

Has anybody backtrack to the version before all this crap?
Seriously looking at reverting back if it will still work.
OK, thinking out loudā¦
why canāt Plex just read the EPG thatās broadcast over-the-air?
I have seen others mention that rolling back works, as older versions still use Gracenote, but i imagine as the contract with them has ended, data could stop at any time
Problem with the OTA guide is lack of S/E numbers, the UK broadcasters dont use them properly, so series record would be even worse than now (which is not saying much), for just watching TV it would be better than what we have now
I think we have just been screwed, like the countries that lost the EPG totally, no updates from Plex on the issues for days and I am not seeing any fixes
Yes, I did that. I was able to continue to use Gracenote for a while, but it stopped working a week ago.
Actually, you can download from the HDHomerun well (with series/episode) but only 24 hours worth.
Thanks for info
I only have the WinTV USB tuner
Does it have good series/episode info?
Nothing on the EPGās missing ability to schedule sports events for particular teams? getting tired of having to manually set up every single baseball game I want recorded for our local team.
I really donāt know - but in theory, they are both pulling the same OTA information,
Iād read some time ago that to use the genuine Freeview OTA EPG, you have to pay to join to be a Freeview vendor, and sign up to encrypting any HD channel recordings.
Which wouldnāt be much use to us.
Freeview (UK) channels are 100% free. I been able to download 24hrs of Freeview OTA EPG with my HDHomeRun with this script from @markcs.
Iāve managed to get almost 2 weeks using Tvheadend and Antennas on Ubuntu, itās been an eye opener! Why Plex cannot get this info is beyond me, but weāre the daft Numpties that paid for a pass when it was all running 100% or close to it.
Iām going to point my server to the new EPG this evening, if it works Iāll post instructions etc for any Linux User that wishes to use it?
Anyway, may Plex keep working, and their latest newsletter advertising Tidal, and some fake? Tweets from users saying how great it is⦠My girlfriend and bus passengers were wondering what I was laughing at
need transparency and far more updates on current fixes etc. Hasmat suit and nuclear bunker will be needed soonā¦
Dave
