I’d also like to know who is providing the EPG data, as in some cases it is very wrong, an example would be tomorrow at 12am in the UK on Channel BBK, which is really BBC 4, is Sir Gawain & the Green Night, the Plex EPG states that it is film from 1973 “Medieval legend gets the swordplay and derring-do treatment. Gawain: Murray Head. Green Knight: Nigel Green. Linet: Ciaran Madden. King: Anthony Sharp. Also known as “Gawain and the Green Knight.” Directed by Stephen Weeks.”. The BBC iPlayer description is “Simon Armitage goes on the trail of one of the jewels in the crown of British poetry.” and it is not a film but a documentary.
The BBC description is correct.
It’s astounding how emotional some get over this stuff. If you hate Plex so much, take your money and walk. I’m not saying you don’t have valid criticisms but holy hell it’s coming across as very childish. Since the December situation was apparently like WW3 to you, and this new scandal is like WW4, you’d think you’d back away from this platform so you don’t have a heart attack. (Seriously, it sounds imminent.)
Hopefully some people can find an outlet to calm themselves. Maybe go for a walkabout. It’s just a DVR solution… No one could possibly care this much.
Thanks for your reply, I rely on Plex for recordings, and I should just be calm when they f**k them up. Thanks again
Anyone using pms in docker? Plex’s official docker is only 1.16.0
Any users in the UK finding that the EPG doesn’t have all the channels as sold? And that most of the channels are cryptic names, plus there’s no Regional channels because Plex use a algorithm that’s only for for Facebook, to choose which is the best channel data for your area? If in any doubts to what I say, I can name and shame the so called guru who said all this!
Dave
I’ve have discovered on my DVR that the channel numbers are wrong (Even after a retune), Dave has the wrong channel number, And when it tunes to it, It brings up quest, The channel number for Quest is wrong also, You go to that and you end up showing DMAX.
This is totally useless nevermind the EPG info or lack there of.
Yup @Bouncer5, the one comment above saying that we shouldn’t be up in arms about it and take our money elsewhere… I wish I could, I paid for a lifetime membership, so I’m stuck, which means I’ve got every right to moan and ■■■■■ about the complete mess up yet again that Plex is forcing on us, especially after the incident December, you’d think Plex would’ve learnt?? Hahaha, sorry, maybe not!!!
Take a look in the OTA broadcast also, I’ve been told it’s supposed to be Regional… No ITV Wales, 2 Irish Channels… And that’s just the start, I’ve filled the page in for @cire12 3 times now, but nothing has been done or acted on, the new inaccuracies page is just as bad as it was when it was Gracenote doing the EPG!!!
Dave
I don’t know what is going on here. I came here looking to see if anyone else has reported that the EPG only has 5 days of data now, but saw this thread. In my EPG, I have the correct description for “Gawain and the Green Knight”
how can different people have different EPG data?
@iomadh May I ask which EPG lineup have you used for your DVR? Most of us have been forced to use the local OTA lineup which has wrong channel names etc. I’m on Freeview Wales
Dave
OTA - Scotland – All channels present and correct.
But I had to do nothing after upgrading to 1.16.1 - it all just worked and I didn’t have to rescan.
What I’m worried about is that I’m in a fake “perfect world” as my EPG does not appear to have updated since the upgrade. So maybe I just have old data (that was correct) and this will eventually run out, I’ll be forced to rescan and lose the channels that are working. Will find out tomorrow if I get more than 5 days in advance, or will only have 4 days left.
@iomadh I’m afraid you’re going to have to do a complete re-add of your DVR to use the new and useless OTA Lineup, where channels from Ireland are in there too!! I’m trying to get to the bottom of this, but I just can’t get answers other than “It’s our Provider”… If you look at the bottom of the EPG and it says provided by Plex, welcome to the nightmare… if it says Gracenote, get ready for the big shift over!!
They expect everyone who finds errors in the Lineups to use the bug reporting webpage, it’s a little like the one we had when we were reporting errors to Gracenote, and they never got heard, now it’s run by Plex, so things that you thought would be fixed, maybe once the Developers have stopped arguing amongst themselves to what the next Cool New Feature should be… that could take till 2020… or BEYOND… Sorry been watching Toy Story with my 3 year old son… It’s easy to get into the spirit of Buzz “EPG Jedi” Lightyear… Just ask @sa2000 if you need help, but be warned, he may want logs, screenshots and how often you take a leak!!
Dave
Why are you still saying that when I explained several times to you, that this would only possibly arise if you use the National freeview OTA broadcast lineup instead of the one for your region . There are two freeview OTA Broadcast lineups, one is National and one is Local - the selection of the National lineup (which Plex May preselect) would have other regions and the advice I gave in my posts to you and others is to select the Freeview OTA Broadcast lineup for your region . If there is a problem with that, please provide feedback
@sa2000 Once I have added the 3rd and final Data to my third tuner, and yeah I’m having to do this by hand as the Cryptic names haven’t worked to auto grab, I’ll screenshot for you as I’m now using the OTA for Wales where there’s discrepencies all over the place including the irish channels!! Do I get an apollogy once this is made public? and would you like logs of my system once I have finished adding them and the post code I used to?
Dave
There ou go… Screenshot of the Wales OTA Freeview one that you asked prompted I should use… Crypic and RTE channels to boot… I’m WAITING!!!
I think they are using TV Guide. My channel lineup on TV Guide is missing 2 channels, and the channel lineup with the new EPG is missing the same 2 channels.
TV Guide used to be partially owned by Rovi in the Gemstar/TVGOs days and still uses Rovi data, same as Tivo (now owned by Rovi), Dishnetwork and some other providers, all which have the same errors on a recurring basis.
Forgive me then if I can interject, if they’re using TV Guide for the USA what would they be using for the UK to be so badly out of date etc???
And I’m awaiting a reply from @sa2000, after his remarks that the Irish Channels couldn’t be in my line up… Buttercup, have I shown you something you were ill informed about? Just as I’ve been saying all along, algorithms shouldn’t be used to get the channels for each line up, these should be perfect to the “REGION” not to the national lineup, the UK is broken into groups, that the algorithms cannot cope with!!!
Dave
Let’s face it, the Live TV feature has always suffered in one way or another. For a feature that they boast as a draw to their service, it’s shameful. Luckily there a many other options available. I find the HDHomeRun by itself does the job nicely. One of Plex biggest flaws in all areas imo is it’s lack of support. Always being referred to the forums for issues & bugs is a poor model. Forums work wonderfully as development tools, but that’s just what they are & should be used for tools. I find it frustrating I can’t that I’ve had some of the same issues forever that can’t be addressed via forums. Plex can’t use the small company excuse anymore. They’re tauted as one of the top media apps on just about every platform now. It’s time they make their development team more accessible to the common user.
For the UK, what is used for the Freeview OTA Broadcast lineup is the TV Guide data from https://www.freeview.co.uk/ - The main issue was that the data was April 2019 data and missed out the freeview change announcements for May and June. This was addressed but there are still few errors like E4 and Home and Movies4Men+1 plus a few more
Also freeview themselves have errors in their data - eg 235 is missing
Is this just me?
I’ve removed and re-added the DVR, re-added all the channels I want, and deleted and re-added scheduled recordings and it comes up that there’s no upcoming episodes. If I change it from ‘all new episodes’ to ‘all new and repeat airings’ then all episodes appear to be recorded including the new episodes.
@sa2000 So what are we doing about it? Is this being fixed before everything goes live on July 1st? Or will we have more users moaning about how bad Plex Live TV/DVR really is?
Dave
