I decided to test the new EPG by installing 1.16.1.1219 on a PC and compare with the older 1.16.0.1226 on my NAS.
The first issue is that if I register my DVR as Canada/Vancouver, there is no channel lineup available for channels 12.4 (Decades) and 12.5 (StartTV). Working around the issue, I changed the DVR to use USA/Bellingham and the channel lineup appears.
However, a second issue arises, where 12.5 (StartTV) is time shifted by 3 hours sooner. If something airs at 9:00 pm PT, it shows in the guide as 6:00 pm.
I can work around the first issue until it is fixed, however the second issue will prevent me from recording some shows.
@dapaquette It seems there’s issues all over the Globe on this one, and it goes out of Beta July 1st!! I’ve been aiding with the beta testing in another thread for the UK guide, but at the moment, we’re getting nowhere fast and if it’s not fixed by tomorrow, I’ll probably start using TVHeadend and Antenna’s on my Ubuntu server to get the latest EPG, and hope after a reboot that TVHeadend actually allows streaming to Plex.
Which Operating System are you running Plex on? and if you need to get more info on this either @sa2000 or @cire12 should be able to point you in the right direction?? We hope?
I’m hoping there’s some magic done by tomorrow for Plex’s sake, else the few complaints they’ve been receiving already from just the Beta testers will become a full on onslaught from Worldwide and the only way to stop it is to sprinkle a little Pixie Dust on the EPG guide to get it working… I jest on the last part, but tin hats or hasmat suits may be needed for the fallout…
I have the luxury of having both a QNAP NAS and a Synology NAS with decent spec’s that are my primary and secondary Plex DVR’s. (I had intermittent crashes in the beginning, so it was my way to work around missing recordings.) My testing with 1.16.1 is on a Windows PC, as I was justifiably concerned that maybe my programming could get messed up.
I think my next step will be to learn how to use zap2xml for the guide data. I have found that the Zap2It guide for my area has been consistent.
@dapaquette No problem, glad to be of assistance, all the information we as beta testers have been told was a new EPG should’ve been introduced last week but it was postponed for some reason, but then we got told it would be July 1st, which is when it all goes live.
I run Ubuntu Mate 18.04LTS as the server/HTPC, all it has is a i5 3330k with 8Gb RAM and around 15Tb HDD at present, but once we’ve moved houses, I’m aiming at 50Tb as my family keep asking for different TV Shows and Films to be added, along with them using the TV of course and at the moment the UK OTA TV Guide is all over the place, some missing channels and channels that have either TBA or Uknown airing for the whole week!! I’ll give it till tomorrow evening UK time, if all else fails, I’ll get cracking with TVHeadend and Antennas, the latter has replace TVH plugin on Plex and runs either in a docker or standalone as a node. Still learning about both even after 10 years of running Linux.
Hope it all goes well for you, and happy streaming!!
I just finished testing zap2xml and it was pretty straight forward in Windows. I now have a plan B if Plex doesn’t fix the new EPG guide issues. I will simply have my batch file copy the guide data to my QNAP and Synology NAS’ after it is generated.
Another issue I found with the new EPG, is that it is classifying older programs as [NEW], such as Mom and Big Bang Theory. This complicates having schedules for new airings only. The new EPG is quite a mess.
Could you confirm this is ok now and fixed. If you are not seeing the channels, delete the DVR and moments later re create it
Let me know exactly what the issue is if you still have problems with these 2 channels using this lineup
With regards to the 3rd channel 12.5 StartTV
You mentioned 3 hour shift
Checking the guide on the page I linked, I see “Crossing Jordan” on 11th July starting at 10am and also at 11am
Your timezone is UTC/GMT minus 7 (Blaine, Washington)
Checking the EPG data for this channel for this lineup, I see these starting at 17:00 UTC/GMT and 18:00 UTC/GMT
This would make them show as starting at 10am and 11am local time - which seems correct
If this is not the case , do a full guide refresh through server settings for Live TV and DVR and see if it is corrected.
If not, let me know if your server or clients are running at other timezones
I looked at https://nocable.org/tv-listings/zip/98230-blaine-wa and it turns out that 12.5 on that guide is also incorrectly time shifted by 3 hours. Zap2It/Gracenote has the correct information. If you go to https://tvlistings.zap2it.com and type in 98230 and compare, it can be seen that they are different. Thus it appears that the source for NoCable is wrong in several aspects.
From NoCable, Medium on STARTTV 12.5 showing as airing at 9:00 am PT (incorrect)
Using Plex 1.16.2.1297, deleting and setting up the tuner again under 98230, you can see that 24.3 & 24.4 don’t have matching guide info. It goes from 24.2 to 26.1. Although I could technically use the guide for 33.5 on 24.3 for QVC, there is no matching guide for 24.2, which is labelled as EVINE.
Here is an image of the Powered by Plex guide info from 1.16.2.1297 of channel 12.5, which incorrectly shows that “Crossing Jordan” is currently airing at 10:30 am PT.
Here is the same guide info from my QNAP that is running Plex 1.16.0.1226, which is using Gracenote and is correctly showing that “Unforgettable” is currently airing at 10:30 am PT.
@sa2000, I see that 1.16.0 is no longer getting Gracenote updates. I was left with no other option but to start using Zap2XML on my main QNAP Plex Server.
Can I presume that the issue with the new guide provider for Plex will not be resolved and that I will need to use Zap2XML for the forseeable future?
I checked the Provider EPG Errors - Google Sheets to see if the issues for Vancouver/Bellingham are listed and I do not see them, even though I used the page to submit them. Makes me wonder if I’m the only one in the pacific north west region that uses Plex DVR.
@sa2000, here is a current Zap2XML file for the US:98230 and Canada:V2Y area for OTA. It has all the valid channels and current guide info for the channels. That should give you plenty of data needed to get the Plex guide fixed. Note that it won’t have the HD airing indicator, which is a limitation of the script.
I am sorry I forgot about this thread and thanks for the your other post that flagged that this got forgotten about. It was not straightforward because the various sources I used for the schedule for Blaine 98230 were in line with Plex. eg https://www.channelmaster.com/TV-Guide-a/453.htm#zip=98230
Anyway, after some searching I managed to find the definitive source which would allow me to pass it on
The source is actually the channel itself = https://www.starttv.com/schedule/ and then selecting the Pacific timezone from the dropdown
As for the channel number mismatch issue
QVC 24.3 and Jewelry 24.4 I still need to find the definitive source that gives the channel number for Blaine. For example this https://www.channelmaster.com/TV-Guide-a/453.htm#zip=98230
shows QVC as 33.5 which is what we have which is wrong. Also it does not show 24.4.
@sa2000 Looking at the Channel Master listing, it’s definitely for a different area. Seattle is a few hours south of Blaine, so it may be for that area. Are you not able to use https://tvlistings.zap2it.com and put in 98230? That one is perfect and matches my channel scan from my HDHomeRun tuner. I have uploaded a zip file with a pdf print out of the guide info, which correctly lists the channel numbers and station id’s. Plus you have the xmltv formated zip file in my previous post. I can make screen shots of the webpage if you need me to, or from inside Plex.
This has now been corrected by our provider and I have checked the data where it now shows for example for “Crossing Jordan” for 31 July starting at 20:00 GMT and 21:00 GMT which correspond with Pacific Time 1pm and 2pm and matches times for PT here Start TV | Schedule
A full guide refresh would be needed to correct the EPG times.
can’t access https://tvlistings.zap2it.com/ - for some reason not showing in the DNS.
I am going to put this issue aside as I do not believe the QVC or Jewellery channel is as important an issue as the others in my backlog to be investigated
If you do find an official transmitter web site source that shows the channel numbers for Blaine please let me know
I can confirm that StartTV is now correctly time shifted.
You could try using 8.8.8.8 (Google) as your DNS and see if that works. Otherwise https://54.201.186.132 should work as well, but you will get an SSL certificate warning.
The 24.x channels are off. for example TiVo has 24.2 as Jewelery, but it’s really on 24.4. This is lesser of a priority, as I personally don’t watch or record anything on the 24.x channels.
One final note. I was reviewing the guide details for the channels I do use and found that the show would be correct, but the season and episode would be wrong or missing altogether, which would make it difficult for it to be correctly put in the library.
Since I have already paid for a year of Shedules Direct as a reliable work around, if you want to work on other pressing scheduling issues for now and come back to this later, that’s fine with me.
Suffice it to say that TiVo was a step down for Plex, at least for my area.
Any incorrect episode numbers I would need to refer to our provider - so would need to have the lineup/channel/series/season/episode/time of airings to investigate and refer to our provider
Really? In my german EPG there are more shows that do not show any S/E information than those who do. You expect us to report each and every episode that is wrongly displayed? Thank god I don’t need to rely on Plex DVR, recording would be impossible.
To be fair, SchedulesDirect also misses a lot of this information, but seems to be a tad bit better than what Plex has to offer currently. Both inacceptable in a “productive” environment.
