New files not detected by Plex server

Hi,
I am new to Plex, I like it very much. I installed Plex Server on my DS213j Synology NAS a few days ago and have been enjoying it since then. However, yesterday I noticed that two files which I added to a folder which is included in the media library used by Plex were not detected by Plex. There are other files in that folder which were there when Plex Server was installed and they are seen by Plex.

I have read a number of articles where people report similar problems but none of the easy solutions (like scanning library files) seem to work for me. Before I go to the more difficult solutions (like rebuilding the database) I would like to check if there are some other things I could check to get this sorted out.

I am not sure it makes any differences but the new files which are not detected by Plex were simply copied via Total Commander on my Windows computer to the folder in NAS where other videos are stored.

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#: Plex Web 4.49.2
DSM version: 6.2.3-25426 Update 3

Any advice is warmly welcome

If you have not already, read Installation & Setup of Plex Media Server on Synology. It will help with running Plex Media Server on your Synology NAS.

Edit: The version of PMS in the Synology Package Center, 1.18.5.2309, was released in January 2020. Consider manually updating to the current version. The “Installation & Setup” document has information on how to manually update. Also see the Synology FAQ #2 and #3.

To directly address your issue:

Make sure the plex user has at least read only permissions to the media files. See Synology FAQ #19 for details on setting permissions.

Also review how you have the media named and organized.

For best results, follow the Plex recommendations as close as possible. See the Your Media support documents. Plex is very picky with TV shows, so follow those recommendations explicitly.
