Watching the program in LiveTV, if change to following resolutions will cause No Sound on iPhone 14 pro. Looking at dashboard, audio is forced to converted from AC3 to OPUS.
I’m on the same server version (linux docker container) and iOS app version and have the same problem on an iphone 15 pro. Only notice it in transcoded live tv streams. Non-live media seems to transcode audio as expected, but have not extensively tested.
I can CONFIRM that there is a problem with live TV transcoding in the newest iteration of the Plex app for iOS. There is no live TV audio in the most-recent update. In fact, this “New Experience” has been bad for me. I am very disgruntled about the current state of Plex as a paid customer. The only solution given is to downgrade through a technical process using a Windows VM.
Will Plex be able to fix these problems, and restore their application to a usable state for Live TV users?
I have the same issue. When connected via cell (iphone) the video will play but no sound. Audio is set to OPUS which seems to be the problem. Plex IOS v2025.16.0, updated today.
I’m having the same problem. I originally thought it was only a problem with the Opus audio codec but it only seems to be an issue on Live TV. When transcoding a movie or show in my library, it uses Opus and it works fine.
Same problem here with no audio for Live TV. Problem continues as of version 2025.18.0 (1109). I have had some luck getting audio to play by fiddling with the quality settings (in my case, the Cellular Quality settings under the client’s Video and Audio settings menu). Some channels may or may not begin to play audio when different quality settings are selected. I generally use 320p to save cellular data when streaming remotely. Switching to a higher quality setting seems to get some channels to work properly.
Same issue here on iOS. Plays fine in safari via web app on iPad. Can’t get it to start in safari on iPhone. Doesn’t work in the Plex app on either client.
Bumping. Same issue. Does Plex not test before releasing at all? I’ve used open source applications supported by one person with better QA than plex. Confirmed same issue today. Again.
I have some good news, this is fixed (and I’ve tested it on multiple devices) in the latest TestFlight beta (2025.22). The release notes also call it out specifically.
" * [iOS][tvOS] Player: Live TV audio would transcode to unsupported audio codec."
Release timing unknown, 2-3 weeks I’d guess.
Sadly Live TV guide on the other hand is not fixed.
That is great news, and thanks for the update!
The other big issue I have is not being able to watch live recordings - they always begin at the start. Hope they find a fix for that as well.
