Live TV - Bug list & feature requests for New Experience

Updated as we’ve had some progress on the key issues with the latest 2025.26 Beta release!

Consolidated thread specific to report bugs that are still with us with OTA Live TV and EPG.

Bugs (all confirmed with 2025.26 and below)

:red_circle: No record button shown when opening TV shows in EPG in the future. Does show for current day Report / Report with screen shots

:red_circle: Live TV is forced to transcode to 264, this was I believe a change to get to a stable playback situation whilst further investigations are made. Not sure at this stage if this is something Plex can resolve, @ChuckPa mentioned this might be about compatibility with Apple Direct play requirements forcing Plex to repackage the content into F’FM4 (it doesn’t transcode, just re-package into another container format)
Link to comment about repackage logic
One example of many posts

:red_circle: Picture-in-Picture still feature regressed since 2025.19, prior button did nothing at all (feature deletion?) Report / Report / Report / Report

Items confirmed as fixed

:white_check_mark: Fixed in Beta released 26/9 (2025.26.0 1279) TV Guide data still not showing for future days, blank EPG on iPhone and iPad. This is in both Guide and Favourite Channel view. Report / Report / Report / Report

:white_check_mark: Overall performance of EPG view is lacking, load times are too long and we’ll not done in a progressive way, ie app seems to need everything to be ready before updating UX leaving the feeling of app crash.

:white_check_mark: Fixed (not sure when, but working for me) Search not showing results for Live TV Report

:white_check_mark: Fixed 2025.22 - Audio failure with remote playback when audio is transcoding to Opus. @wally007 has also raised the fact that direct play of AAC-LATM codec results in no audio. (2025.22 beta)

:white_check_mark: Fixed from 2025.22 - When trying to play some (about half) channels, getting error "Error Occurred The operation couldn’t be completed (CoreMediaErrorDomain error 1718449215). Playback is fine on MacOS client and Apple TV, same local network, DNS is 1.1.1.1. Report

Feature requests / UX improvements

  • Ability to scroll EPG by touch for time (ie left and right navigation), rather than having to click the left and right buttons. Up and down works to scroll channels.

  • Provide the option to remove the preview above the EPG, for me this isn’t required at all and takes up too much space on iPhone and looks odd on iPad. Never should a channel automatically start playing without explicit request from user.

  • When clicking the X when a channel is playing in full screen, it should stop playing, not just return to preview playback with EPG.

  • If favourites are set, default to this as the first view when opening (from @dzvxd7)

  • Overall performance of the Live TV UI, it is quite laggy in places, for example taking 20 seconds to load EPG (from @dzvxd7)

  • Recording schedule view and advanced recording options (from @dzvxd7)

  • Ratings from IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes to be included for movies in the EPG guide. That way, I’d be much easier to make decision on which movies to record. (from @TOMillr)

  • Takes 30 seconds to load the Guide
  • Now that “favourites” actually works again, it takes up to 10 seconds to load that, but with no UI feedback so it appears to hang
  • Defaults to “guide” rather than “favourites”, negating a lot of the point of having a favourites.
  • No advanced record options
  • No recording schedule
  • Limited “discover”/“what’s on”
  • Playback doesn’t work reliably. Either won’t load or fails after a minute or so

Could you please add direct play of AAC-LATM codec is not working ?

I dont see how I can force transcode of audio. Even if I disable Direct Play and Direct Stream, it will not transcode audio. Only video is transcoded but audio remains AAC_LATM which results in no sound in the new iOS client.

good summary, confirming the same the new Experience is not really usable on iOS or Apple TV, luckily on Apple TV we still have the former version public, otherwise it would be a total disaster unfortunately… who from PLEX monderators/employees can comment on this as Live TV is quite having a lot of bugs/issues unfortunately.

I’m sure they are going to get to Live TV, they had quite a few other things to fix in more core experiences.

I’m terrified about an upgrade to Apple TV to new experience.

I have Beta 2025.19.0 (1118) - did not recognized improvements/fixes I was thinking of e.g. EPG >24h, Favourites as default in the TV Grid etc.

I gather your talking about iOS Beta Release

Consistently, it seems there is a lack of testing - no audio on iOS. For me, since 2018 when I first moved to Plex, home aerial fed Live TV has never been really reliable. On the other hand, content from Plex hosted Movies, shows and Live TV seems to be pretty solid…

what audio codec is your tv provider using ? opus aac_latm or something else ?
(you can find that by playing liveTV and logging onto plex web interface → dashboard)

I found that I can get some live tv channels/programmes play audio by changing from aac_latm to aac_5.1 (unfortunately not all channels in my area use aac_5.1 stream)

it’s a bit of a mix for me.

No way to disable live tv view when in guide -

  • takes an age to load, making ui non-responsive
  • takes 50% screen real-estate away from guide view
  • Uses tuner causing it to be unable to other services
  • Provides spoilers for current programme being viewed!

I’ve added the epg performance bug, the others I think are already covered.

My question, when you say the tuner is in use, not sure exactly the context, is this about the preview window taking a tuner slot?

Yes, exactly that.

I have a dual tuner HDHomeRun. I don’t want a tuner unnecessarily tied up showing stuff I haven’t asked to see. Even worse if it’s stuff I intend to watch, and don’t want it spoiled.

More importantly it fails accessibility guidelines. I have an autistic son who can no longer use the app because he needs things to be still and quiet so he can process them.

Thanks for collating all this. I do hope Plex take note, although they haven’t acknowledged any of the other reports or fixed anything so I’m not hopeful.

Yep very much hard agree on this point, thanks for confirming. I also have the Dual Tuner HDHomeRun (HDHR4-2DT), probably the longest in service hardware that I own

On iOS with Player 2025.20.0. EPG browsing > 24h still not possible and overview about upcoming recordings still not there

I’ve updated with findings from a few days of use for 2025.20 beta, that seems to have made absolutely difference, and in-fact appears to have deleted the option for PIP playback by removing the GUI button (I’ve tested with 2025.19 and the button exists).

So we are left with a feature that doesn’t work at all, audio doesn’t work for most channels, channel guide data doesn’t exist more than a few hours out & playback error’s happen all the time…and PIP getting removed.

Plex team, it’s been over 90 days since Live TV became unusable on iOS/iPadOS/Andriod. Is it possible for someone to take ownership and help us understand what is being done to restore at least core functionality?
