I have the same problem as well, everything was working fine up until yesterday for me. No results when scanning new or previously matched movies.
This has been happening to me for a few weeks, took me some time to realize multiple shows were not picking up artwork. Can we get some engagement from support on this.
If I do this:
TV Shows > Manage Library > Edit > Advanced
I see
Scanner: Plex TV Series
Agent: Plex Series
and if I change the Agent to TheTVDB (which also changes the Scanner to Extended Personal Media Scanner) and click Save Changes, then I can get artwork/metadata on a show by selecting Fix Match.
Otherwise with the Plex Series agent I just get “No matches were found using this agent”
Auto-matching on adding stuff in library doesn’t wrok and no matter what’s put into the “Fix Match” function, nothing comes out:
Either way of fixing match/searching for a very simple movie name - just renders:
failure to match has been happening to me as well, it is the second time, the first time it also ‘magically’ resolved but this time it’s been going on for quite a while
i’ve done lots of things, restarting, upgrading, the plex server install, that did not help
I’ve resorted to manually adding metadata and such, which is really annoying
i suspect this has to be on plex’s side
Yes I agree that this time it’s been going on for longer than previous.
For me it’s happened four times this year. The first time, when I wrote this original post, I tried a lot of things as you can see above. Without an actual clear notion what fixed it.
The other times, the problem has just solved itself “magically” and that would indicate it’s a problem on the Plex side of things, not user error.
Same issue here, been going on for a week and a half. I know it has worked for a small period of time in those days. Now it is broken again.
Nothing changed on my end at all and like OP it has worked perfectly for years, matching on IMDb ID even nowadays…
“No matches found” here as well for both movies and TV episodes (with other episodes in the same series already in the database), still worked normally maybe a week ago.
Edit: ok, restarting the media server seems to have fixed this.
Aha, that worked for me, too!
@peterkocic Can you please install the Windows 64 bit version of PMS and see if that resolves your issue?
I can’t, am not on Windows . . .
Thanks this was interesting, did not know I had 32-bit. I have now installed 64-bit and will monitor the outcome in the future.
Just like some previous posters have mentioned, the problem resolved itself just by rebooting the server (this has on previous occasions not resolved it).
In contrast to the previous times this problem has occured I decided to just let time go, without taking any action - to see if it resolved itself ‘magically’ over time. It did not, thus I decided to reboot and did so prior to upgrading to 64-bit.
Given that this has problem has been reoccuring I will keep an eye on it and post here again if it does indeed come back and even if not.
The joy was short lived - waking up this morning I can see that a movie and a TV series added during night has not been matched:

Both of which have simple names.

Both giving the same “no matches found” when searching manually.
(I have not re-started the server yet)
Logs please. Can you also share what your Library locations look like? This is the Add Folders page when editing a Library.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply, I did a plex dance of the most recent movie and downloaded log
Plex Media Server Logs_2023-08-30_21-43-16.zip (4.9 MB)
The library location

Typical structure - e:\encoded movies<year>\Title (year)
Local drive RAID 5/0, hw RAID card

Very interested to see if there is a resolution for this. I have had the exact issue with the Plex Agents for about the last 4 weeks. It magically resolved itself once, but only lasted for about a day before reverting back.
I ended up switching the Agents for my libraries to “The Movie Database” and “TheTVDB”. Once I switched to these agents, the metadata matching/updating works as normal.
I also noticed that new PMS updates were no longer being detected automatically or when clicking on “Check for Updates”.
E:\encoded movies\<year>\Title (year)
is NOT a supported format.
My canned response is to see https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/ and:
If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}} as the new name format.
Folder format:
${title} (${year})
(Please note I linked to the v3 which is free to use)
Having intermediate directories will cause issues.
My sentinment is that this folder structure has been working for 8 year, and just by restarting the server with no change to folder structure the auto-match hops up and starts working again.
And even if the folder structure had something to do with it, how would that affect searching for a manual match? Why would this net a “nothing” as a result when just searching for a simple name in a movie.
It doesn’t quite make sense to me that the folder structure is the source of problem. Given that I previously tried moving it out of the yearly folder and still seeing the same problem, unalble to auto-match and manual match… I’m reluctant to change this for now.
I’ll be happy to make the change if we conclusivly find this to be the root cause.
@apoptosis81 try switching the agents back to Plex and restarting the server, that worked for me. (for now . . .)
If you’re seeing this issue please can you install the latest beta version (1.32.6) and continue using the server as per normal, if you then encounter the issue please grab your server logs as soon as you notice the issue and post them here.
Version 1.32.6 adds additional log lines to diagnose the problem better.
And me. Literally made no other changes. I wonder if the agent is randomly dying in the background. ![]()
