New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

agh - sorry, I totally misread this. I thought you were saying that it only had programming from 20:30-22:00, when you were actually saying that between those times it shows “ITV Programming” instead of the correct shows.

…sorry for being slow. I am checking-in for progress with Plex’s EPG after a 2 months of using an (almost) perfect external XML EPG feeds and have clearly forgotten the problems (and the pain, frustration and effort required).

I have to say though, I have just checked all the shows that I am currently recording and Plex is close to correctly identifying them.

At the end of this week, it will be 12 full weeks post change-over.

I haven’t bothered rechecking the shows I stopped recording having lost too many episodes in their respective series to make it worth continuing.

I see no movement on genres yet either.

Do we still have intermittently bad sections of info then i.e. “fixed” channels are not reliable or is 003 ITV simply not yet considered fixed?

{edited for typos]

Lethal Weapon season 3 is also showing Lethal Weapon 3’s (the film) poster.

I havent used it much in the last month, so not sure of how many errors still there, it does look better, I just check it every so often to look for improvements

I usually do a quick scan for errors in the current 2 hour block, if there are many shows with todays date on them which shouldnt have, then its still got issues
EG, look at Pick TV today, any show without a Season/Episode

After a full server re-install I setup Plex from scratch over the weekend. First recording I came to setup - Stath Lets Flats 10pm tonight on Channel 4 - no guide data.

:frowning:

And the next thing missing too - Great British Bakeoff tomorrow night. Other programmes have data. These are two shows I did have set to record as part of a previous install on the same machine (I purged Plex before re-installing). Could that have caused an issue. Seems to much to be a co-incidence…

Edit: To be clear; I installed Plex twice on this machine over the weekend. The first time I setup recordings but had a random weird issue to do with port forwarding/remote access and decided to try a purge and re-install. The fact I am seeing programmes I previously setup to record as “Unknown Airing” seems perhaps more than co-incidence. Is there a cache somewhere I should have purged before re-installing? To uninstall (its an Ubuntu server) I did this:

sudo apt-get purge plexmediaserver
sudo userdel plex
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/plexmediaserver

If this is the reason I appreciate it’s off topic of this thread.

@sa2000 the Neighbours issue has recurred again - back to an Unknown Airing, including after a manual guide refresh.

I appreciate all the work you do raising each individual programme issue but clearly this isn’t sustainable and given multiple programmes are affected it is a bigger problem than just one-off issues.

I would appreciate if we could be informed of the broader strategy here, as surely there needs to be some sort of proper review as to what is going wrong?

PS same issue on channel 005 (non-HD)

it’s these reoccurrences that worry me the most. 12 weeks into the new EPG and it simply isn’t reliable - @sa2000 is working hard, but ultimately appears to be playing whacamole with these issues.

Good luck with this. I asked this of the CTO who made some vague comments but then refused to provide detail when questioned on it. He also stated (but refused to provide supporting data) that this issue isn’t effecting many people which this probably explains why Plex hasn’t put enough resource into fixing it. …doesn’t it effect all EPG users in the UK as we all have Freeview OTA?

Ok. I re-freshed the guide, and restarted my browser after deleting the cache. Still the same. Could anyone please confirm if they also see “Unknown Airing” for Stath Lets Flats at 10pm tonight on Channel 4?

I’d be keene to know if this is an EPG issue or something I’ve done. If the former I’ll be quite gutted; coming back to a fresh install after some weeks of everything disabled, and 2/2 things I want to record are not in the guide. If someone else sees it, it gives me hope it’s not EPG issues.

10pm is also “unknown airing” for me on 104 Channel 4 so it’s an EPG issue. I am on Freeview Meridian/Central OTA

Thank you @JCHH - I really appreciate that. You have saved me an hour plus of trying another purge and re-install.

Very disappointing to hear the EPG is still so unreliable. I am so close to throwing in the towel on this. I might email Plex and enquire about a partial refund on my lifetime pass. Bought it full price just 3 months ago, for DVR-ing, and have had nothing but headaches and a not insignificant loss of time.

I should probably try Channels…

Looking through some of the posts above I see I am experiencing the same thing others have for the last few days.

A month ago there were large blocks of unknown data in the EPG - something about a conflict between updates within the browser - which did then get sorted out. But here we are again.

At this point, and regardless of whether it is likely to happen, I agree with @EDIflyer that Plex do owe some sort of response to those who are sinking time into this, beyond @sa2000’s case by case (and highly commendable) responses in this thread.

Some acknowledgement that things are worse than expected, and they are aware of the time lost by paying customers, could go a long way.

"Unknown Airing" entries in the guide

This is a new issue that we are working on to address and resolve.

It is due to gaps in the schedule. This is a problem at our end and we are working on reverting some changes that introduced it

If the guide is fully refreshed through server settings then it is most likely this issue

I don’t quite follow, do you mean we shouldn’t be doing a full refresh now? I thought you said previously we should be doing it daily to sort out these issues?

I would also appreciate your thoughts re the request for a broader update as to the state of play…

Sorry - my words may have been misleading. I explained it here New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK - #240 by sa2000

Yes please do continue to do daily full EPG refresh. If the Unknown Airings still remain then it is not the Plex Media Server issue with automatic refreshes being inadequate - and most likely the problem that was introduced recently in our back end processes that update the EPG data

We are getting feedback that it is now much better. A lot of issues have been fixed and a lot of TV Shows have been sequenced.

But some setbacks such as this gaps issue do have a big impact and we are working hard on fixing that

Thanks for the prompt reply and clarification, @sa2000 - much appreciated.

This was a full refresh today - I’ll try again tomorrow, please let us know when the back end processes have been fixed and we can expect these unknown airing to be populated.

@sa2000 yes, it does appear to be a lot better, but these little reoccurrences are the difference between “set and forget” (aka production release) and “having to check everything daily” (beta testing).

…and thanks for your continued hard work on this.

J.

There is feedback from reported issues that are fixed, what about the majority of other issues that people dont report
The EPG needs to have accurate data without having to double check it’s accuracy and report issues

Have a look through the EPG, pick any 2 hour slot during the day
Now look for all shows that have the current date as the aired date
The majority of these are wrong

Last night, and before reading @sa2002’s response just above, I resolved to draw a line under the hours this has taken from my family and just use Plex as a media server.

I emailed Plex support enquiring about a partial refund of the £100 pass to reflect that a key feature I felt I paid for was not fully functional and I may also need to take out another DVR subscription.

They (fairly) mis-interpreted my email as a request to refund my complete pass, which they cancelled immediately and refunded me £85. In fairness they have since invited me to re-buy a Plex lifetime pass, and will refund the £15, so I am back where I was yesterday with my remote server re-enabled.

Has left a bit of a sour taste though. I’m probably done with Plex now, and will go back to just Infuse and a regular Freeview DVR.

Does this help? Right now 103 ITV HD shows “ITV1 Network programming”. I did a full refresh and it stayed the same:

Here is the Freeview website for the same time/channels etc etc:

…no, I am not watching TV!

[edit: added the following]

Also this (post manual refresh) - a bunch of “unknown airings” for tonight on 104 4 HD, 105 5HD and 109 4+1 HD. Also can see “Four in a bed” has today’s date instead of series/episode info:

This does appear to be related to the new Gaps issue and Unknown Airings. We are testing the fix for this at this moment
