[New Router] Reclaim lost server and set up port forwarding for it

Hello there!

I am running Plex on a Synology NAS for quite some time now, where I was now able to mutate one problem into two.

Problem 1)
I got a new router/modem from my ISP, set it up and last but not least put the same port-forwarding rules into place that were active on the old one.
External 12345 → internal 32400
IIRC the same ports were set in the Plex-settings (at least it still worked yesterday).
The server was listed as unreachable and so my journey began…

After some other port-tests on the new router and among other things restarting the service, the server and the router, my brain did a full 360 and made me remove the server from the authorized devices. Please do not ask me why.
This brings me to:

Problem 2)
The server is now gone from plex app whatsoever.
I edited the Preferences.xml according to the official help article (where I did not find PlexOnlineHome though?!) and, after that didn’t help, also tried removing the (backupped) XML completely. Both to no avail.

I can access the site via http://app.plex.tv/ as well as http://myserver:67890/web/
There is no option to claim a server in either though.

To clarify:
I was running this server for some years now already, with the same setting that I thought I have set up again (until I broke it with Problem 2).

It would be very much apprechiated if somebody with more insight or a similar problem in the past could lend me a helping hand.

Please help a broken man. Thanks in advance.

@ChuckPa was recommended on a reddit post - my aplogies if pings are not common in this forum.
I tried your UserCredentialReset but either I does not work for me or I’m too dumb to actually get it working.

NAS model?
DSM 6/7/7.2.2?
Native install or docker?
Installed version of PMS?

Is the server listed in Authorized Devices? https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

Some additional info…

From a system on the same subnet as the NAS, point a browser at the IP address of the NAS.

For example, if the IP address is 10.1.2.3, use https://10.1.2.3:32400/web.

See if you can login and claim the NAS.

If that does not work, then start with checking the basics.

If the NAS cannot communicate with hosts at plex.tv, then it cannot be claimed.

  • Verify the network settings are correct: IP address & mask and default gateway.

  • Configure the NAS to use a public DNS server: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (Google), or 9.9.9.9 (Quad9). ISP DNS servers sometimes have trouble resolving plex.tv addresses.

  • Verify the time is correctly set on the NAS. If the time is incorrect, claiming may not work. Sync the NAS with a public NTP server to ensure time is correctly set: DSM Control Panel → Regional Options → Synchronize with NTP server.

If running DSM 7+, you can claim the server by uninstalling/re-installing Plex Media Server. See Synology FAQ 31: Reset / Reclaim PMS on DSM 7 (Not Authorized - Locked Out).

DS918+
DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6
Native installer if I recall correctly? Not 100% sure anymore, years have passed since installation (I update manually it via package-download from app.plex.tv)
PMS 1.41.1.9057-70009057

The server is not listed in Authorized Devices since I removed it :frowning:

Thanks for the info. If you’re using Package Center then it is a native install.

See the “additional info” post above. That should get your server claimed. Once claimed, can work on remote access.

My lord and saviour - thank you very much.
I have googled a lot of “reclaiming plex server” and alike, but was never directed to the FAQ in here.
Server is claimed again!

Would you mind assisting me with problem 2) as well?

I accessed Plex via http://myserver:67890/web/ with the port that I specified on the router (TCP external 67890 to internal 32400) and also put that port into “Manually specify external port” in the plex-settings.
What am I still missing to access it via https://app.plex.tv/ as I used to?
I’m being told that it’s “Unable to connect to “MyServer” securely.”

Update:
/solved
I had to also foward said port on my second router that works as a WDS bridge from the ISP-modem to the office 2 rooms over.

Thank you very much again @FordGuy61

Glad you’re up and running.

Cheers!
