Please change it back.
I also came here to specifically complain about the new UI. Clunky, not user friendly, completely jacked up watchlist. Have to scroll endlessly. I do not want Live TV or Discover in my menu. I was able to remove it before. Please create a way to customize or revert back to old UX.
I think its a “Keeping up with the Joneses” thing. Netflix makes an awful change to their UI, then others see it and view it as somehow “better” because it is different, then replicate the look for their own service. The parties involved didnt bother to stop and think about the impact such a change would make on the useability of the service. Only that its different and somehow better because of that.
After using this interface for a few days, it has NOT gotten any better… Found numerous bugs, including one that unfortunately prevents me from using subtitles now, even though I am hearing impaired. Subtitles for some reason stack up and fill up the screen while they are on, leaving older subtitles at the bottom. It is unusable.
Yeah it’s pretty unacceptable what has happened. It’s 100% clear the people in charge at Plex not only don’t know what they are doing but don’t deserve to be in that level of power making the decisions to push these changes.
No thought was given to the user experience, it was not properly tested because of all of the bugs and they don’t listen to feedback when 99.9999999% of the people absolutely despise the update and want the previous version back.
I bet anything if Netflix ditched their top bar and went back to the side all the other streaming companies (including Plex) would switch it back too because they are just sheep and see Netflix as ‘their daddy’. Anything they do is the right thing just because they are Netflix.
Came here to say fire your UX person/team (or hire a good one). It’s spectacularly bad…
There is just no getting used to this.
I understand that people tend to dislike change, and will complain about UI changes before giving them a chance, I totally get that, UI changes feel like someone snuck into your home and rearranged your furniture. It’s annoying but usually you eventually learn to accept the changes.
But this is not the case here.
This is more like someone snuck into my home, and built a maze out of my furniture, then nailed everything to the floor.
This sucks, Plex is not an app that I care about being pretty, I just want to be able to load up my media as quickly as possible. That’s all. I think most people who use Plex would agree with me.
At least give us subscribers an option for the old UI.
Btw, it’s been posted elsewhere but this was the response we’ve been given so far from Plex.(It’s not good.)
Ditto!! This is the most unsuable interface!
You failed to address one of the simplest and most often made complaints: YOU MADE IT DIFFICULT TO DO BASIC ACTIONS. I used to have a menu on the left where I could choose (for example) Movies or TV Shows. Once I selected one (Movies for example) it would show my movies in a browse mode. One click to select Movies and then I can navigate through my list. Now, on a Roku device, in order to replicate that action I have to click at least 3 times to get to the Libraries option at the top, then down to the menu line below that, then at least one click to navigate to item I want (Movies) then a click to select, then I need to hit the start or navigate to the Browse as the default is most recent. That is at LEAST 7 clicks to do what I could before with one.
Tell me why this is better?
I also hate the new interface. The sidebar removal is a step backwards. I only want to see my own libraries too, not this other crap.
Adding a +1 for reverting the downgraded interface the previous version - updates are supposed to improve the user experience, not diminish. The continue watching section now only shows movies for some reason instead of shows and movies? You need MORE clicks to get to the same media. Please do user feedback testing in the future if you’re going remove basic functionality from the platform we pay for instead of whatever this update was attempting to accomplish –Lifetime Pass User
Honestly I understand how Plex devs might think that people are just resistant to change, but this new interface is just clunky, unnecessarily complicated and nonintuitive. Media that used to take just a few clicks to access now takes a ridiculous amount of navigation to get to. I truly don’t understand how anyone can compare the last UI to this new one and consider it anything but a downgrade in functionality.
It’s glitchy too, I’ve had two separate instances where I can still navigate the menus but when I try to click on items to play it makes a click noise but nothing happens until I force reboot the Roku.
Actively looking at other options now, what a total bummer.
I guess this is Plex’s attempt to streamline and look the same as other media apps with the top bar and multiple sub categories, It is NOT an improvement.
Even if future updates fix it from running slow, the crash issues, the jumping back to the top while browsing movies or shows and starting your search over…as well as other issues others have mentioned, it’s not PLEX, its a huge downgrade. Now it’s a cookie cutter UI with more clicks needed to get to where you want to go that everyone uses. The original side categories was a much cleaner and intuitive UI in my opinion. Yes, my opinion, everyone has their own and some may like this look, but it doesn’t appear that many do after reading the feedback so far. Also reading the replies so far It doesn’t appear that Plex will be going back to their original look and feel. Instead they will spend lots of time trying to fix the issues with their new cookie cutter design that no one really asked for. I will ask for one request for many of us that love our Plex…. Give us the option to have our original classic UI PLEX, Pretty Please…. With sugar on top.
Thanks from a Plex Lover……
Unplug from the wall. I had the same issue and I have the same model TV.
The old preconception that a remote being power turned off is so often over looked as not true but Standby.
Also note: in the app settings /advanced / reset cache is useful when things may not work.
+1
The new app is absolute garbage. We need the ability to turn off all things other than personal media sources again.
The UI is a major step on the wrong direction.
This UI is so bad I am looking at replacing plex with a competitor. They need to offer a slim down UI for people that only want access their library. I only use plex for that. That is the original purpose.
That needs to be front and center. Why change the ui in the first place. Each ui update makes plex less useful. So far the original UI was the best.
I know you are trying to find ways for revenue but waisting money on unorganized UI replacements hurts your bottom line.
You should make your product to have multiple UI choices. And we can pick the experience we want.
new Ui is un usable. Ui changes need to make things easier not harder. I whish I could tell my Roku to not do any updated so I don’t get this ■■■■.
Yeah my wife is so pissed she can watch her stuff,
Last night she said f it and said well I for watch Netflix then.
If you disable the Plex “Live TV”, “Movies & Shows”, and Discover options in your Plex Account settings that would leave only your own content visible in the app. You might need to reboot the Roku or sign out of it and back in for the changes to take effect on the the device, but it would remove the content you said you’re not interested in.
The most recent discovery of what they really screwed up is the user profile and multiple servers. I have 2 plex servers in 2 locations. But it looks like your favorite libraries are now shared to the same profile and used across servers. So when I use a roku in one location none of the libraries are shown and no home page. So I have to go in and add those libraries. Now when I go back to the other location and different plex server. It can’t access that server and no home screen. And you can’t go in and remove the libraries because the server is not online. Their test cases need to be updated and then need to ensure regressions like this don’t happen. I really like the Roku hardware including the remote. This reminds me of the stupid things they did on the mobile app platform. These issues are simple they will get used to the UI changes they broke major functionality.
