New UI is an awful experience

Well, I got up and it’s still here. ROKU Device is only good for a hammer strike now. You screwed us. We will not forget this.

After years of using PLEX may I say the new interface sucks. Obviously not user design individual was involved with this interface. Really have to go up to make a selection – who the heck needs Home when it does not take you to your database for selection? Oh and let me say that having eliminated your playlist from view was a touch of What the heck were you thinking. Please go back to the selections being on the left. Get rid of the Home Screen crap on top and at least give us back the ability to have playlists showing after wading through this ignorant layout!!!

This new Roku Plex UI is beyond terrible. I hoped they were going to make the original UI more streamlined for users of personal libraries but they did the exact opposite. The new UI is essentially unusable. I have Jellyfin running for internal use but I’ve read that there are issues for external users. I need to make that work because Plex is worthless. They clearly don’t care what users of personal libraries want. Let’s start a gofundme to have someone develop a new Plex Roku UI using the open API.

who authorized this update?
how could anyone say “this is good.. people will like this…”

the really stupid thing is, all the devs have to do is go through the feature request forum and see what they should work on.. no need to just ‘come up with random’ things to do that no one wants anyway.. what a waste..

my parents will never figure out how to work with this.. it’s fkin awful..

Pro week is making me chuckle now. I don’t believe that there’s a single professional in the company anymore.

What did you do to the playlists? They used to be a separate library. Now I have to choose a library and find a playlist and hope that it is part of that library. I have all my movie and tv show libraries broken out by category. Some of my playlists contain different genres of shows or movies. How do I know where a specific playlist is?

Please move playlists back to their own library.

New UI worse than garbage.

Roll it back or offer a choice to use the earlier version.

Plex’s decision to eliminate email-based tech support isn’t just disappointing—it’s a calculated move that undermines user trust. They knew this Roku App change would be wildly unpopular and trigger a flood of support requests, yet instead of preparing to handle that volume, they quietly pulled the plug on direct communication. The forums are now flooded with justified criticism, and Plex staff seem to be deliberately absent. No responses, no accountability—just silence.

This isn’t a minor inconvenience. It’s a fundamental shift in how Plex treats its paying users. And it’s pushing me to seriously consider Emby Premiere’s lifetime license. Emby still offers email support, and more importantly, it respects the autonomy of local media users. With Emby, I can stream live TV from my antenna and access my recordings without relying on a cloud tether.

Plex, on the other hand, has morphed into a cloud-first platform masquerading as a local media solution. Its apps and server are engineered to “phone home” for basic functionality. That means if your internet goes down, your media library becomes a brick. Local content should never be held hostage by remote servers.

This isn’t just a downgrade—it’s a breach of what made Plex valuable in the first place.

Man you have us all trying to find a way to get some support, it is truly unusable this Roku update. The change and layout are one thing, but I cannot actually even select and play any content on my server, the buttons don’t respond? What? How is this even possible for a release?

Adding my name to this thread in the vain hope Plex will actually pay attention.

The two things I’m grateful for following this “update” is I didn’t just get plex pass. After years of use I was finally gonna get it to expand our watching options, not now though. Also, looking into Jellyfin tonight because of how buggy and unintuitive the new ui is.

Also adding my voice to this I do not care for these changes at all. I’ve been using Roku and Plex since at least 2015. It’s not just that the changes are different it’s that they aren’t downright bad. Navigating the UI is much more difficult now than it was before it takes many more button presses to get to where you need to go and that is not necessary.

Has anyone considered organizing a “Lights Out” protest to shut down our PMS servers for a period of time to hit Plex right in their pocketbooks (in terms of ad revenue and company reputation) if they refuse to revert to the older UI? Not only would it send a message, but advertisers (primary source of income for Plex) would take note and possibly put their ad dollars elsewhere.

Awful doesn’t begin to describe how bad this new UI is! Please tell me there is a way to go back to the old UI.

Tagging in here as well - I haven’t had nearly as much trouble as some others here (good luck you guys). My issue is the little details that get forgotten every time there’s an update.

In years past it was the loss of the “Play All/Repeat All” functionality in folder view, which for users like me who ripped their multi-disc sports libraries to Plex and had a functional experience, that was lost. Never returned.

My big one with this update is the omission of a “list” view vs. grid. Now, with longer file names, my library isn’t navigable without hovering over each item and waiting for the scroll.

Just…roll this back until the new version is tested, please? I’m not anti the new UI per se…top menu, whatever, I’ll get used to it. But the basic functionality is causing seemingly most of your users one problem or another. You’re not a startup, quit fumbling around like one.

Upon further investigation, it appears that Emby also relies on their forums for support. However, I have also read that Emby demonstrates significantly better forum engagement from staff compared to Plex. From a query using AI (Perplexity):

If responsive forum support is important to you, Emby is significantly better than Plex. While neither platform offers traditional customer service, Emby’s developers and staff actively participate in their community forums, providing technical assistance and engaging with user feedback. Plex has largely abandoned direct staff engagement in their forums, relying primarily on community volunteers and automated systems.

This represents another compelling reason to consider switching from Plex to Emby, especially if you value being able to get direct responses from the actual development team when you encounter issues.

Again, this is from AI but it sounds legit.

Anyone have a image of what this new tv ui looks like? I can see the storm its kicked off, But no clue how bad it looks :joy:

Very levelheaded and rational response. Agreed.

One more for the pile - my dad was complaining yesterday about his ‘roku changing’ and I was genuinely confounded at how difficult it was to find his playlists again. This is a dreadful update.
