New upgrade

I am adding old shows. That on TVDB.com do not have a year behind them. An example would The Fixer and The Fixer (2015). The Plex system has started adding the ( ) numbers without me having it in my file name. Can this issue be addressed in the next update?

Thank you

I ment next plex update.

The issue is probably with your files.
Are these in mp4/m4v format?
If they are, they could contain internal metadata.
To avoid troubles with embedded metadata, go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.

Afterwards, Refresh the tv show. (works only at the ‘show’ level, not the ‘season’ and not the ‘episode’ level.)

Tried your suggestion, it did not work. Do you have any other suggestions. By the way this the second time I am adding some of these shows. The first time no problem this time added years not on the file name. This issue just started with the last update.

Thank you

Try the Plex Dance instead of just refreshing the show.

So The Fixer is being identified as The Fixer (2015) is that right?
If so have you tried the fix incorrect match option?

I moved the shows to the home folder, updated to make sure they were deleted from the multimedia folder and then moved them back to TV show. I am still get the same error.

Note: There has been a recent change to the options presented when you click the three dots:
If you click on the three dots next to the library name “Empty trash” is there but not “Clean bundles”
However if you click on the dots next to the word “libraries” you get both options.

I do not know exactly when this change took place but I guess it was when Plex added options like “Empty trash” to individual libraries.

It is not much of a difference but could be a bit confusing to some people. I know it initially confused my old brain when I first encountered it. Of course my old brain is easily confused: Some people can walk into a room and forget why they went into it. I can walk into a room and forget what room I am in.

The problem is Plex changed the way they’re dealing with TV Shows. It came as a great shock to them, they did exhaustive ‘research’ - then slipped it into File 13.

The hapless user wanting to match the ‘First’ Fixer must:

Add (2008) to the folder name (Not Shown at TVDB in the name, but listed down under the name):
A TV Show Library/
…The Fixer (2008)/
…Season 01/
…The Fixer (2008) - S01E01.xxx

or

  1. Fix Match

All calls for ‘The Fixer’ default to ‘The Fixer (2015)’, so if you want to match the previous version you need to inject that year - that’s not shown at TVDB, or Fix Match.

Plex hasn’t bothered to inform users of this with updated documentation. They’re hoping users just absorb this knowledge through osmosis or from the magic 8 ball that all users have. Plex is also counting on enough users to Fix Match in the next 20 years so their ‘Learning Media Server’ will educated itself (and they won’t have to bother repairing what they broke) - much like all those suggestions for ‘More From Clem Clodhopper’ in their very helpful Discovery sections in all their apps.

Of course it’s always a possibility ‘the user’ simply has files named and structured so badly they can’t work.

In short, it’s game of find the Happy Hand Grenade and everybody is playing.

tic tock.

Remember back when you could just use FileBot and/or use the name TVDB used? Yea, those were the good old days, eh?
