Out of the blue, new movies being imported with radarr just started showing up as duplicates. Strangely nothing has changed, don’t even believe an update to plex. Checked the folder location specified and there are not two copies of the movie in there either. The folder settings for ovie libraries do not show any overlap (in this case the “new release” folder being in any other movie library). Here is one example :
If you are using external tools to download/prepare files, make sure that unfinished files are not “seen” by Plex (i.e. don’t download or rip directly into your Plex media folders).
Make sure that 2 concurrent library updates are not running at the same time.
If the above mentioned tools can trigger a library update in Plex, disable the ‘automatic’ and the ‘periodic’ library update in Plex itself.
@OttoKerner in addressing the first point, I do not have plex seeing files that radarr downloads until the file (s) are complete and copied into the “new release folder” plex does not have the temp download folder visible, so it does not see those files until completion. I also just got another movie last night, and to test it, manually copied it into a different library, “archives” and as you can see, it also sees two copies of it there as well. So I doubt it would be anything triggering 2 different library updates at the same time.
I will try disabling those updates for automatic and periodic now and see what happens throughout today. It also seems to be doing the same thing in my TV library, which also uses sonarr and is set up the same way, but all of this has been running smoothly for about a year and all of a sudden this occurred. Maybe there was a plex update or a windows update that caused this. Since that kentucky fried movie was done manually without the use of radarr, and copied over manually, that removes the third party tool part out of the equation.
WoW, this is getting irritating. Not only things imported, or not imported into the folder, but my own backup of a disk copied into the library folder to check out in 2160.
This is just plain ridiculous. Here you can see that plex on the firecube also believes there are 2 versions to chose from
In this instance, it is good news since I watched the movie and have no need to keep it, but this little problem is quite irritating.
I’m having this issue on my server as well. Only started a few days ago, I’m assuming the last server update. Surprised to not see others with the problem reporting it though?
Sorry to hear you are as well. And since you aren’t me, I am glad to know it isn’t just effecting me. Now it seems to be more of a mind of its own. Some are duplicating that way, and others are not. No rhyme or reason to them. I don’t have any older versions handy to revert to, so atm I am just living with it. Annoying as heck though. Maybe now they can focus on those movies you can now purchase under the "movies & tv " section, and leave the actual issues unsolved.
No idea, it stopped but then again, there was an update. Still doesn’t fix the stuff that was effected and sitting in the database twice, but hey, i am sure something else came up, maybe an option to have people read you audiobooks on demand, something really exciting like that.
Since I last updated my main server I’ve seen and been experiencing this issue. I’ve never had it before when I load the files into the directory files, this just started with the recent 2 updates. Occasionally it goes back to the correct format but then eventually it goes back. Obviously other users are having this issue and it’s on the software side (Plex).
Just as suddenly as it started happening, it stopped. No one here offered anything remotely close to a solution, and doing the “plex dance” does nothing. Here are the movies that were effected and have been re-added numerous times, yet I just ran this duplicate search again, and still months later, one copy of the movie, location has one copy yet they are still duplicated. I am sure the smarmy commentors will somehow think it is my “wonky” setup, and yet somehow is also effecting other people, since that makes perfect sense.
Funny, since this issue came and went with no answer, I just left it alone since it stopped happening anyway. Well, the funny part is I ran across one of the movies in my library that was effected by this, and it is still duplicated for no apparent reason. I removed it and let plex find it again for the heck of it, still duplicated.
This has started happening to me maybe 2 weeks ago, I thought it was something on my end but I’ve been busy and have not looked into it until today. Just like you guys have stated nothing has changed on my side, but a select few movies are showing 2 copies inside of plex however when checking only 1 file exists. I’m still currently showing an update to plex which refuses to download and install.

sure, even though my examples were up there, just a little bit above…april 13… a few that stay this way, variety of punctuation before you blame that.
One media example
I am having the same issue here recently. Items which are moved by Radarr and Sonarr automatically to the correct directory for Plex to scan sometimes show up as duplicates. When I look at the info under the item on Plex it shows that there is two files under the exact same directory but when i look in Windows there is not.
