Next episode play issues on Shield TV

I didn’t say this, I just said you should post a reference link to go along with your claim. Reasonable suggestion no?

If you are still experiencing issues with auto play not starting the next episode then I would need the android logs after it happens to make a bug report

Read the problem. Nobody is saying it doesn’t start the next episode.

regardless i need logs

Can no one at Plex replicate this?

I can’t and use the Shield every day multiple times a day

@BigWheel I am revisiting this as I still have the issue.

Steps to reproduce

  • Ensure auto play is disabled. I think this the the step you might be missing. I don’t want it to play the next episode but it tries to anyway.
  • Play the first episode of a TV show that you have the full series of in Plex
  • Let that episode play until the credits.
  • You can either press back once on the remote to see the next episode screen while the credits still roll on the current episode or wait for Plex to show the next episode screen automatically.
  • Once the credits have finished the next episode will start to play however the UI stays on the next episode screen and the video plays behind it. Subtitles appear over the top of the next episode screen at the bottom. The next episode will play entirely if you leave it like this.

This isn’t quite the same issue I’m having. I have autoplay enabled because that’s what I want but subtitles are enabled at random and sometimes the episode starts in the background while the autoplay countdown still shows on the screen.

@BigWheel I’ll get logs for you this evening.

Edit: Skipped through to near the end of some episodes to speed up issue with subtitles being enabled and here are the logs. I’ll see if I can get logs later of the next episode starting in the background.

Thx for the steps @W0lfm0n but unfortunately I still can’t reproduce. Can you confirm the exact server version and android tv app version

I’ve also seen this happen a number of times but so far it seems to have been random when it does and doesn’t happen.

I’ll keep an eye out…

Hey, sorry for the delay.

Player : Nvidia Shield 2019 [Tube] - 9.1.0(33.2.0.125)
Server : Synology DSM7 - 1.28.0.5998-adb79ff3b
Client : 9.5.0.33736 (dd6a9a7e) [Play ‘Up Next’ videos - OFF]

Happened again last night, I have got into the habit of stopping the playback before it occurs but I was busy doing something and when I came back the up next screen was showing however audio of the next episode was playing and subtitles in English were displayed over the top of the UI. Pressing back twice brought me back to the home page. The next episode did not log any progress in the up next section of the home page.

Something similar happens on my Fire TV’s, both with a Windows server and a NAS. If I have auto-play turned on sometimes it starts the next episode and sometimes it doesn’t. I turned it off as a last resort but STILL the audio continues but not the video.

If you fall asleep or walk off to do something the audio continues all the way through the next show and it counts as played in the continue watching.

Ever been watching a show and you have no idea what’s going on? Then you realize Plex watched the last 2 episodes of your show without you?

This has been going on for 2 years and has been reported by many people on multiple platforms, multiple client apps and all the updates in between

Bump. Happens every evening. Not every episode. Hard to believe no one at Plex who uses a Nvidia Shield daily has not seen this issue. Just asking, Plex doesnt think we are talking about their shows? It’s our media files.

Bump. Still having this issue, subtitles always keep getting enabled and the playing in the background issue has cropped up again recently.

Again, this is still happening.

Shield TV 2019 (not pro)
Player Version: 9.8.2.35221(75113949)

Audio sometimes plays in the background while autoplay loads the next episode.
Subtitles play while autoplay loads next episode, despite not being default or forced.

To disable subtitles, you have to select them in the navigation menu because it is marked as none, then select none, or you can stop/start the video.

I am having this issue as well.

I had this happen for the first time a couple of days ago, where the audio for the next episode played in the background during the continue watching countdown.

I’d previously replied in this thread about it, but this is the first time I’ve actually experienced it, so it’s definitely still happening. I assume enough logs and such have been posted by now, but if a dev thinks logs would help then I’ll capture them if it happens again.

I’m always happy for more logs. We think there are a few things going on here that cause the similar symptom so would appreciate it.

I’d be happy to share some logs too. Do you need client or server logs?
