I use DVDFab to prepare MP4 files of my [legally owned] BluRay and DVDs. I just purchased several seasons of Top Gear. Plex Server does not show the ripped MP4 files in the folder.
The DVDFab rip parameters are the same settings I successfully use on other / similar DVD files. (Codec H264, Resolution 720x404, Frame Rate 29.97, Audio AAC).
I’ve added and removed other files to the folder, so I know Plex has access and refreshes the content.
Oddly enough, one file works. I used TG for a name rather than Top Gear. However, when I change other files to the same convention, they still don’t show.
Thanks for the response, but the file name doesn’t appear to be the issue. Even when using naming conventions such as TG S12 E6.mp4 and TGS12E2.mp4 the files are skipped. The files play fine on VLC, so I know they are not corrupt . Does the scanning software look at meta data or file properties that could be unique to these files?
Thanks again
Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title (year) - s01e01 - additional info.ext (‘- additional info’ can be left out)
After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.
