Not getting updated metadata on one show only

I added this series to my server a few months back, and there was very little info beyond the main show synopsis then. I’ve written the English-language season and episode synopsis info for TMDB while I’ve been watching it.

At this point I see Plex has my info on its side, but I’m not getting it on my server. I’ve tried refreshing metadata multiple times now, and I’m not having problems getting metadata for any other programs I’ve added to my server since then. I just can’t update this one.

I have added episode level external ids from tmdb to both imdb and tvdb. This may or may not help, certainly won’t make things worse

While we wait for the plex metadata back-end to pickup these changes could you check the show level guids as they are reported in plex. Here is a link on how to do that if you are not familiar with the process → Show "Sunny (2024)" getting incorrect metadata and has multiple tmdb ids - #18 by dokuro.

That would be the “Grandparent” GUID if I follow the naming here (guid = episode, parent = season, grandparent = show)?

Not exactly. I added a dummy file of the s01e01 for the show myself and I see the ids are …

… which all look correct. Moreover, I can see the metadata in my plex server for the show and the episode. So, the next question comes to how have you named it ? I used \Rikuoh (2017) {tmdb-74706}\Season 01\Rikuoh - S01E01 - Episode 1.mp4. Maybe you need for force a full plex dance on the show as there could be stuck bad data on your side. Also, are you using tmdb episode ordering or tvdb ?

I’m using theTVDB ordering, but the ordering has never really impacted the metadata retrieval itself. The main show synopsis and episode thumbnails I got are the same ones on TMDB now (which were there when I started). Edit: nevermind on that, I realized TVDB has the same metadata.

I hate Plexdancing content since it messes up the added-on order for things, but I’ll try it.

After removing the series, and doing a database optimize and cleaning bundles I added it back. The series info and poster reloaded but the episode thumbnails did not get downloaded initially:

So I waited for the intro/credits processing to finish, and then did a metadata refresh on the series despite it having just been added back 5 minutes earlier. The episode thumbnails now came back, but the episode and season synopsis are still not there:

Okay, I’d say the fact you are using tvdb episode ordering and there was no linkage between tmdb (default in plex) and the tvdb is most likely why its blank. Lets confirm in 48/72 hours once the edits I done yesterday to add these ids creep their way into the plex metadata back-end.

It worked. I did a refresh on metadata and the episode synopsis have now come in.

tmdb (default in plex)

This is an essential piece of information. Just realised that for one of my series tvdb and tmdb was one year off. Changed this and voila! Populated correctly.
