Logging onto the client locally, there is no ability to add server files or services. I’ve tried stopping the service, changing the privileges on the share folder etc. I’ve tried reinstalling the server. I’ve tried a factory reset on the server (a synology 218+). Same thing. When I install server version 1.16, the client indicates it is “looking for the server” but never finds it.

Just to add: Here is the log file, in case anyone knows how to make sense of it!
After a bit of sleuthing myself through the log files, i solved the problem. I’m using a router that allows the use of local hostnames rather than IP addresses. Somehow, logging into the NAS and subsequently the local PMS using the hostname was tripping up PMS. “fileserv.ubnt.local” was getting cut to “fileserv.ubnt” and was not being resolved. there was a note in the log fle:
Request came in with unrecognized domain / IP ‘fileserv.ubnt’ in header Host; treating as non-local
With that clue, I reconnected to the NAS and local PMS using the IP address. Voila.
Hopefully this resolved post will save someone a lot of trouble.
