v9.3 is out now. Does this mean that ASS subtitle support is official now?
So, when should we expect this feature, then? Initially it was said that it would take 1-2 versions before properly implemented, and now it’s feeling more like 4-5. No disrespect to the developers of course, I understand how hard it must be to debug new features, but more transparency couldn’t hurt.
Its okay, I am just happy this is being worked on and you guys are close enough to release an alpha build in the forum. Would be happy to help test if more test builds are released. ![]()
It’s ready when it’s ready. We all saw how buggy it was up higher in the thread, and we still haven’t got an updated build that has fixed all those issues. So set your expectations low for the time being. As someone else said, I’m just happy to know it’s being worked on. I didn’t think they would ever do this feature.
Apologises for the delay, we’ve been having some trouble getting libass updated on Plex Media Server which is blocking us from using the latest version of the library inside of the Android client.
Here’s a new build (which still doesn’t use the latest libass version sadly), it does however contain numerous fixes and improvements for ASS playback over the last build that was shared.
If you have any issues please let me know, include the client logs and a sample if possible.
Seems to be working much better overall than the last build, but colors don’t seem to always be correct.

I have had a similar issue on my Android TV where the colours of the subtitles don’t seem to be correct
Thanks for reporting, will take a look at this. Very odd that they are off so much.
Is this with the latest build that’s been posted above, or with other subtitles?
Thanks for reporting, I had my colours mixed up when rendering
Oddly it wasn’t noticeable in other samples.
Here’s a new build that solves, the colouring issue:
The issue of incorrect ASS subtitle colours still persists
Can you provide a sample and an image of the differences to show what is incorrect?

In this particular file the subtitles weren’t showing up from the start but after unselecting subtitles and selecting them again during playback the subtitles would show up.

I’ve had the same problem with a file. Also Plex would sometimes crash, playing the file. I’ll try to provide a sample, if needed.
Is the crash with the latest build? If so, a sample would be great.
Same… Plex would crash sometimes trying to play the file
Thanks for sharing the samples, I tried them out and couldn’t replicate the issue, the subtitles are showing up correctly, which lead me to notice that I shared the wrong build above, the correct build should of been v9.6.0.33625 which is below;
This solves the colouring issue, as well as the crash that you might of seen.
Fixed the final issue (the coloring) in my death note sample. All good now.
Hello Sixones,
I’ve downloaded the arm64v8a. Thusfar it seems to work. I’ve also given it to my friends and we’re going to extensively test this version. Will let you know soon!
