Nvidia Shield cant add libraries via webapp, no language options

Server Version#: 1.40.1.8251
Player Version#: 10.13.0.466
Plex Media Server.log (998.2 KB)

I have shield (app and PMS) and personal cloud NAS on same network. Shield has it mounted all the time. Other apps on shield can access it. Wanted to add new library via webapp (plex.tv management app), but was not able to as no language could be selected in the folder/agent wizard.

Decided to start all over form scrach. Uninstalled and cleared the app and server from shield via UI means. Removed server from webapp. Still cant add any new libraries, media library setup process is looping. No changes were made to networking. I even had remote access enabled and everything was working fine till this moment.

Please help with debugging.

Have same exact issue as of 4/17/2024 running latest Plex server version and Shield Pro. The language dropdown no longer appears and cannot add folders due to that.

so it would seem not a good idea to reset everything for now (If You havent already) as You would loose ability to use current libraries.

Also I wanted to add that I figured out there is a separate software instance to be reset/cleared/disabled and so on - for Plex media server. You would think that it is obvious as You could update them separately but in reality - to check its permitionas (PMS didnt have any), You would have to search for it in system app section specificaly under system apps and scroll way down to find the PMS instance. And then You could clear it too. I did just that. Will see if it changes anything.

What browser are you using when you experience this?
Do you get this behavior consistently with other browsers or browser add-ones/plug-ins disabled?

I use vivaldi, but I tried on brave and edge with no luck

It is spamming this warning in the log: “Warning: ex: boost::filesystem::last_write_time: No such file or directory [system:2]: “/data/user/0/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins”, couldn’t check file: “/data/user/0/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins””.

Also this: “[CERT] TLS connection from [::ffff:87.110.57.194]:50845 came in with unrecognized plex.direct SNI name ‘87-110-57-194.5d60004a826e4f0aa0eb6e99670acfa9.plex.direct’; using installed plex.direct cert”

The issue with no language being available is down to the permissions of Plex Media Server.

Go to Plex Media Server in the apps of the Shield. Change the permissions to “Only allow whilst in use”, press back button on remote, go back and change to “Allow” and then allow on the screen that pops up, then untick the option of removing permissions if inactive or something like that.

Then you’ll have access. However, there seems to be an issue with the latest version of PMS which stops configuration on the web with a new installation.

Thanks for the tip but no luck after changing permissions back and forth a few times, starting/stopping PMS, rebooting Shield, etc
I had about a week ago added a new library with no issue and suddenly today the language issue started.

I am having this same issue. From other questions I have confirmed my server (running on Shield Pro) is version 1.40. I have turned the server off and on.

Thank You, but I believe that I have already tried just that but I could recycle one more time just to make shure. Will post if anything changes.

For now it seems like a bug - not shure if in the web platform or the android PMS instance itself.

Nothing changed, logs contain the same looping warning:
“Warning: ex: boost::filesystem::last_write_time: No such file or directory [system:2]: “/data/user/0/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins”, couldn’t check file: “/data/user/0/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins””

Also, I tried firefox as a browser - all the same - no language.

It looks like a permission issue looking at those logs. You’re on the stable 1.32.8 version? After downgrading I found that the permissions weren’t sticking like they should be so had to do it several times before it worked.

Same here - I had to factory reset my Shield a couple of days ago and all was working fine. I added files to libraries yesterday and then scanned no problem. Today I can’t scan or add libraries. I’ve rebooted, force-stopped the server and started again, tried different browsers and different computers - nothing has worked

PMS version: 1.40.1.8251 (for android TV). Latest from playstore.

Do You suggest to sideload an older version? And if yes where would I get an older version and which one?

Also as to not sticking - the trick is to double check back and forth (as You mentioned yourself) before leaving the permitions section. I checked again and it still says “alowed” so if it is misleading I wouldnt know.

Best place to get previous versions are here. The one that works for me is: 1.32.8.7639

OK, I will try and post feedback.

I have the same problem with the Plexserver on my Shield.
I also have a Plexserver running on a PC and a QNAP NAS and on those two it works fine.
So it seems to be a problem on the Shield.

I would say that this is a solution for now

Libraries created/added as expected. No similar errors in the logs.

So it seems that a previous version must be used 1.32. Thank You for the advice!

Could you help me a little bit. I downloaded that previous version and it is now on my PC.
So the apk needs to go to the Shield. How do I do that?
And if the apk is somewhere on the shield, can I just install it without uninstalling the ‘other’ one first?
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

  1. You should install a file browser on a Shield via playstore
  2. Have access to a local share (I have NAS) or on a USB or SD card that is attached to Shield or get access to Shield file system from Your PC by following these instructions: https://support.plex.tv/articles/220347688-accessing-shield-storage/.
  3. Have that file on that media - copy it to NAS or USB device or from PC directly to Shield.
  4. On Shield browse to that file on chosen media using file explorer You installed on Shield.
  5. Make shure You allow install from unknown sources
  6. I uninstalled all updates and disabled (probably not mandatory) PMS on Shield before install;
