Nvidia Shield Dolby TrueHD playback is borked

Since my upgrade to 9.1.0 (9.0.0 wasn’t working and didn’t have any issue before)
I’ve seen 3 movies in TrueHD + Atmos and 4K HDR/DV without a single issue.
I paused, rewind, ff… No glitch, hiccups, speening wheel, out of sync audio…

So far so good.

i’m no longer using v9.1.x as it was causing so many problems i had to revert back on both my shields (pro and tube), so can’t provide logs

but issues were (and have been mentioned in this thread and others i believe).

  • playback just stalling randomly getting stuck on orange spinner, having to go back on the timelime to make playback restart (happens on any content, not specific to TrueHD)

  • play next function will play the next episode in the background whilst the countdown is still in place

  • TrueHD content that played fine on previous clients releases now became troublesome to play, 1 specific example being Raiders of the lost Ark would not play TrueHD at all.

  • plex home screen UI has the bug was present a while back and since fixed where it doesn’t focus on the correct sidebar option

those are just the big issues that made it a show-stopper for me to keep using it.

Unable to replicate this issue, what device and setup are you using? Do you know if it was happening with transcoding or direct playing?

This has been fixed and will be available in the next beta.

Are you able to provide a sample of this video so I can investigate?

Will let the team know about this.

happens on both the 2019 pro and tube version of the shield.
all content is direct played, and the most recent occurrence (before i removed that build of the client) was when watching a tv show in 720p stereo audio.

Okay thanks, will keep trying to replicate.

Since you seem active and keep pushing android fixes

Are you aware of literally a bug that makes android unusable to all non english subtitle users? That was introduced some patches ago. Pls see my thread about it and pls pls push a fix since it seems WAYYYY easier than foxing this truehd issue

What kind of subtitles?

Client version 9.1.0.31720 on Plex Shield PRO 2019

Regarding video with TrueHD not able to play … I have similar video … UHD rip of Days of Thunder made with MakeMKV 1.16.7

If start video from start with TrueHD, video does not start (timer stuck at 0:00) - TV info says it enter in Dolby Vision mode (which is correct for this video) but TV shows no info on audio … if skip forward few seconds, video starts to play fine.

No problem playback if choose AC3 tracks in that video.

I have other DV titles with TrueHD that play absolutely fine (Clear and Present Danger, Hunt for Red October) … but this Day of Thunder is just strange (tried re-ripping it, but same results)

I tried to cut 10s of the beginning of that movie, but the result piece plays fine on Plex … i am at loss

If two external subs exist. You cant pick the external sub with the letter that comes later

So
En external
Ar external

Ar will always be picked

Thanks @RcRogers . I’ve downloaded it onto my phone and will SL it onto the Shield tonight when I get home. Appreciate it man.

May I ask, have you been able to reproduce the issue where scrubbing through the timeline, (especially backwards) or a few clicks of the rewind button result in a frozen frame, no audio but the timer still runs (as if it’s still playing)?

Not related to TrueHD as it happens with every file.

I mentioned this bug a few days ago. It’s extremely easy to replicate:

I tried to find some material with a 96 kHz TrueHD track and I barely could find any. However, I found one with the following audio stream and tested it.

Audio #2

My Plex on nVIDIA Shield TV Pro is 8.30.2.31202. I could not find any material with 192 kHz TrueHD. Does it has to be Dolby Atmos? Or 8 channels? Even the Dolby Atmos / Dolby TrueHD demos aren’t higher than 48 kHz. I wonder what content is actually in 96 kHz or 192 kHz

Do you mean that nVIDIA upscaling? I think I can remember it being possible to disable it and then suddenly not anymore. Do you have some test files? Have you tested it with “switch framerates” or just without?

Do you still need some TrueHD test files? I may be able to generate and provide some in the near future.

If we wanted to send logs about what happens when we encounter these problems; where do we send this information to?

Reverted to 8.27 because the builds Plex is throwing are way off and destroying the experience.

Thank you.

Hello, where do I find and how do I install the Plex 8.27 version? Thanks for the help!

I found 8.30 in a google search.
I imagine it applies to all versions.

@sixones

Was the sample of the TrueHD seamless branching cuts I provided (The Martian) helpful? I can probably generate additional sample files if needed

The latest stable / working version I have is 8.31.2.31546 (62043fa3) - dated March 24th.

I got this from apkmirror.

I check for new versions in the Google Play Store almost daily.

I upgrade to the new version, it immediately stops my 4k TrueHD playback working, I rollback to the above version and everything works at it should.

This thread has been going so long now. I can’t believe Plex haven’t addressed it.

I guess they decided to focus on the sexy new stuff that will get them more downloads / installs instead of their existing (Plex Pass buying) user base!

sigh.

I can confirm that with the most recent beta version I just tried last night and all my issues of TrueHD/DD with Atmos files are gone (Plex for Android 9.1.0.31834-beta). I joined beta to confirm, but some other issues came back like when clicking “back” in the main screen, it would not exit instead it seems like reloading the page, only the 2nd time I press “back” it comes out. I have a Nvidia Shield Pro 2019.

I might go back to stable release, depends on if there are other issues or not.
Thanks for the work on fixing this or at least to minimise for some, appreciated.
