I have no idea if it’s a Shield Experience 9.0.2 update thing, or a Plex update thing, but I’m having the strangest experiences just recently. Some of my 4K UHD rips (ones I’ve ripped myself straight off my own disc) now jump 1 to 2 minutes in when you start them. You can start to rewind and see the video show up in thumbnails, but as soon as you play they jump forward to the same spot, skipping all the video and audio that is actually there. They’ll start from the beginning in VLC. This happens on Spider-Man No Way Home and LotR The Fellowship of the Ring (tested a rip I’ve had for awhile to make sure I wasn’t crazy). Some files won’t play at all now. LotR Return of the King (despite being from the same disc anthology) seems like it will no longer direct play and tries to transcode, but just fails over and over again. It’s now completely unplayable. This title used to play flawlessly. It’s making me hate Plex so much lately. Just when I had my setup dialed, everything breaks. I am streaming from a powerful Ryzen machine to the Shield Pro over ethernet.
This is all due to issues with Plex. I experienced the same.
Side load version 8.29 for now until Plex gets their act together.
Does that break the library or configuration? I’d like to see if things are better but I don’t feel like rebuilding everything from scratch.
no, changing the client version doesn’t affect your library.
you just have to configure the client settings again if you downgrade (as you have to un-install and re-install).
Can anyone confirm freezing issues around the last 26 minuets of Ghostbusters 2 UHD rips with the TrueHD track? Played 1 and Afterlife this weekend with the family, but 2 gave me issues right as the last act was kicking off.
So the issues I mentioned still exist in the beta version?
@Plex… What the hell have you guys done ??
Neighbors on both sides are out, so have an opportunity to really crank my system, and I find that almost every TrueHD 7.1 / Atmos movie won’t play!
Half of the time I just get a spinning wheel, and if I leave it long enough, playback starts but the audio track is transcoded, and the other half of the time playback starts after a few seconds but with no audio playing at all.
How on earth have ya’ll managed to screw this up SOOOO badly ??
Server Version: 1.25.9.5721
Player Version: Plex for Android TV (Shield) 9.0.6.31998
Client OS: Android TV 11 on Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro 16GB version 9.0.2
Server OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 Std on HP ProLiant ML350 G6 / Dual Xeon X5675
AVR: Denon AVC-X6700H
Nvidia Sheild → HDMI → Denon AVC-X6700H → HDMI (eARC Port) → Sony XH950 (eARC Port)
read the thread, and roll back your client (or try the latest beta).
Thanks @herman_munster … Might give some some of that a try in a few days, but seeing as how it’s a Bank Holiday here in the UK, not gonna mess around with that today and just use Plex HTPC now that it supports standard HDR10.
#2 is not fixed.
Are there any plans for this to be fixed? Getting constant spinning circles when using the latest Beta and trying to watch movies which used to work flawlessly. UI is also slow and unusable.
This SHIELD+TrueHD thing is really trying. TrueHD used to work fine. Now it doesn’t. In my environment I get the spinning icon and then after a while the PLEX app restarts.
I was under the impression this was a bug in the server, not the client, so when I see someone suggest “rolling back a client,” I don’t see how that can fix this problem. I don’t even know how to roll back a client. I tried finding old copies of both server and client, but I was basically unsuccessful. Google Play Store doesn’t have an option to “undo” an “update” that I know of.
I tried the Beta server, and it still doesn’t work.
I remember quite a while back where CHAPTERS stopped working on SHIELD and it took MORE THAN A YEAR to get it back. Once back, I stopped updating both the server and the client for a very long time. I recently updated both so I would be running something similar to my neighbor who I finally convinced to install Plex. And I was hit with a major regression: TrueHD no longer works. Will it take a year to get back TrueHD?
All flavors of DTS and AC3 (and EAC3) still work.
FWIW, I am also having difficulty recording TV shows. Today I finally gave up and re-SCAN my tuners. I’ll know tonight if that fixed this regrettable “DVR problem” (regression: something that worked that no longer works). I saw no mention of this “change” in TV Tuner support, although I do not seem to receive notifications reliably. I record the news (3 different channels) at 6pm and 10pm, and if I’m watching Plex, I don’t need to go somewhere else (e.g., TiVo DVR) – I can just pause what I’m watching and watch the news. This no longer works.
P.S. For those suffering Google’s Android TV ads, I turn off Google Play Services and revert the Desktop app, and the ads go away.
The issues you mention are fixed in beta but beta still has major issues. TrueHD files start fine but a few minutes in suddenly stop playback with a never ending spinning wheel requiring me to back out to the main menu.
As soon as I load 8.29, those issues go away.
Beta is broken.
Thanks for confirming. This really sucks cause everything was finally working perfectly. It’s a shame it got messed up. Do you have a trusted source and link for a 8.29 apk? How long does it typically take for your issue to happen on the beta? I just installed the beta and my issues are gone so far.
OK more testing and the video keeps playing without issues but the audio definitely gets out of sync with the audio after awhile. I’ll do more testing. Might just have to wait on another update.
More testing on same movie and it seems to be random. Haven’t had the same audio sync issues.

Can confirm side loading 8.29
from the links provided by @Orange_GT3 has worked.
All TrueHD / Atmos content is now working perfectly again.
Obviously had to turn off Auto updating of apps in the Play Store for the time being, and will have to keep an eye on things as they develop.
Many thanks all
your impression was wrong.
the issues are all client related.
how to roll back has been mentioned various times in the thread already.
And again…I would be interested to hear what gave you that impression?
It never was and until your post have never seen it reported as being a server issue.
But to be clear. Latest server… non broken client.
No issues at all for any of the ever growing issues in this thread.
Any reason why 8.29 over 8.30.2?
I went with the latter after reading 8.31 had issues, and I’ve not noticed a problem with 8.30.2 yet so just wondering if I missed something?
