When they figure out the cause of the issue I’m sure they will do that. It happens to me as well and can reproduce easily if I take my server offline and restart app.
You don’t even need to restart app. It’s enough that server is not reachable. Anyway, bug is introduced with 9.2. I would recommend to check commits and compare difference between those two codes. Hopefully, it’s not spaghetti code…
This isn’t something that is annoying like restarting playback after pause restarts a video from the beginning and while apps like Kodi and VLC do not have that issue, I can accept time to debug and figure out what’s going on. Maybe it is something in the file encoding, maybe it is an issue with the file.
But this is a feature that was working in the previous version of the Plex player and is now broken after a single ‘feature’ update. What does it say about the developer for this area of code that they cannot revert their changes? The ‘fixes’ for 9.2.1 were “Player: improve ad experience”. What ‘ad experience’ updates would result in removing pinned libraries?
If personal media and we cannot show them ads then
If pinned library then
unpin
else
display ad to upgrade to a new experience
else
unpin
end.
Code for something like pinned should be:
If Pinned Library
If library is not accessible
DO NOT UNPIN !!!
Else if anything else to unpin other than user manually unpinning
DO NOT UNPIN !!!
End IF
ELSE
DO NOT UNPIN!!
End IF
- I do not need fancy cool features, I want Plex to work
- I do not need fancy automation, I want Plex to work.
- I do not want any sound playing when Plex opens… PLEASE GOD NO, I want Plex to work.
I want Plex to:
- Allow me to search for media easily, it is less easy since you’ve added support to search across Netflix, etc.
- Play video files without glitching- play == play, pause == pause, FF, skip ahead, next, all just need to work.
- Record the shows I have specified without the need to reboot my shield every few days because it lost access to the antenna.
- to make sure that the core features are rock solid, and just work.
^^^ that… if only :’(
And yes, I simply want Plex to work too, no fancy new “features” that I never use and look more like crapware (sorry) than anything else.
Thank you!
it’s getting to the point, i think, where plex need to create 2 seperate products.
product 1 - the bloated plex that we have now that is intent in feeding you external content to the detriment of the local media user
product 2 - the “original” plex that is solely for the playback of local content and has no bloat or “features” that “enhance” the user experience.
If you are really frustrated you can sideload the 9.1 apk for now which you can from the release thread. Plex for Android - #428 by marekszulik
Of course that users are frustrated. ■■■■ happens, of course, but Plex should fix it as soon as possible. Or roll back, or at least suggest downgrade. But you suggested downgrade after I side loaded 9.1 and confirm it’s working. Which could mean that nobody from Plex didn’t figure that out, didn’t even try, nobody is actually working on the fix…
Same for me!
When I power-off or restart Nvidia Shield, my pinned TV & Movie libraries disappear.
I have to re-pin them every time.
Very annoying…and I cant be bothered to roll back to previous version!
Fix is in beta released today. So fix coming soon hopefully
Great! at long last!
nice to know ![]()
Thanks! Anyone tested?
I’ve tested with the latest beta. Pinned sources are remaining now after Plex server restart. Thanks Plex team for the fix!
We are hoping it will be released to public tomorrow
It’s not listed in the release notes for today’s stable release? ![]()
They edited the post and added it:
- Pinned sidebar sources could disappear if app restarted with their server offline.
So it’s hopefully fixed.
Awesome fix Plex, did your team actually check that it worked or did they just ‘unit’ test with a mock server that disappeared? I will be opening a new topic or adding info if somebody has already opened a new one.
1st test after getting the update -
- Pin a few libraries.
- Put server 1 (Win 10) to sleep.
- Open plex on the shield (Shield also has Plex server installed and I use it for the DVR) as well as the player.
Results
After about 20 seconds of spinning get the attached screen telling me to check my internet connection, wrong error because there is a wired internet connection. So it would appear that even though I have a DVR on the Plex and I have an internet connection that not finding a server, Plex cannot even display my DVR on screen.

It seems to be working for me, but my home has no pinned library.
Without the fix, I had to reset the home setting each time to get my server libraries back.
With it, I see all my libraries as before, even if my server access has been lost since my last use of plex.
I haven’t received this update after 2 days, is that normal?
Not sure what device you are on but Fire TVs usually take a bit longer because Amazon takes longer to approve things.
If you are on a Google store device you can go to Google Play on computer and push updates to device by clicking green install button and it will ask which device to update. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android&hl=en_US&gl=US
Am on Nvidia Shield, that page still shows the old update under my Google Account, but if I use incognito, it shows the 1 June update, not sure, let me wait one more day. Thanks @BigWheel
