The 'Baa theme' should run the vanilla one but check in the OpenPlex thread on how to properly switch themes if you need to.
Any chance the sub sync when fast forwarding gets fixed?
Haven't checked on that lately. My opinion still is the same, though: It's a PMS transcoder issue - or do you have an instance with a "direct play" file?
it happens with every file on direct stream actually
>>direct stream
Direct stream is using the transcoder for a container swap... direct play is NOT using any part of the transcoder, allowing aTV to replay natively.
Question is: Does it happen with files playing natively on the aTV (like m4v/h264/aac)?
What you mean natively?

Actually i play only mkv files on Apple TV, the issue appeaers only if i set the sub transcoder to "Auto".
natively: video files that don't involve the PMS transcoder.
sub renderer: iOS - would only work with m4v and embedded subs. PMS - burns the text into the video stream (heavy on the transcoder).
The issue - once again: If you use the transcoder, the timing information seems to be somewhat messed up after FF/RW/Jumps. You can see that as well by just jumping to the same time over and over again (like press down, jump to a mark, jump to the next, back, next...). You might notice, that the replay start position actually changes by up to about 2sec, which is exactly the root cause for the out of sync subtitles...
For reasons unknown to me, the aTV doesn't find the exact frame in the video stream. And with the subtitle in the correct timing, you might want to argue that actually the video is out of sync, not the subtitle. :-D
So it cant be fixed?
Not from my side, I am afraid. I guess, we have to get another discussion with Plex Inc/Transcoder subdivision going... :-D

I would be really grateful if you could do something about that cos it's pretty annoying.
By the way thank you for your answers. Keep up the good work!
Any news? Someone you can report this issue to? This is really really annoying for me....I would be really grateful if you could do something about that cos it's pretty annoying.

i have the same issue of h4, and i fixed setting the subtitle option in plexconnect from auto to pms + ios, otherwise all my subtitles in srt of my mkv files would go out of sync when fast forward - reward / resuming a video file
it's all perfect now, seems, just had to change that option

Yeah, but as you can notice with that new setting, font is not as clear as it is when it was set to "auto". And that's pretty annoying to me

How about adding ability to dynamically adding offset for subtitles via menu available via "long click"? Nothing fancy, just ability to increase or decrease the offset with 200ms to be able to compensate for the misaligned stream.
Within the player, everything is iOS. No chance to hook in there. Well, at least I don't know any possibilities...
- Commit: latest commit 1088c3cedc on non-jailbroken ATV2
- Subs settings in PlexConnect settings:
Transcorder: Auto
Subtitle Renderer: Auto
- Subs settings in Apple's ATV menu
Subtitle Language: Auto
I'm not aware of any other settings on the ATV.
- Attach problem subs as a zip file
No issues when manually downloaded *.srt files
- Agent settings on PMS:
Local Media Assets on and on top (both tv shows and movies)
Open subtitles.org on and in second place. With username / password and first language English, no second or third language selected.
- Problem:
All movies and TV Shows have options for subtitles (often more than one English option, sometimes up to 10) in a format like "English ( )". When I select any of the "English ( )" the video won't play: "An error occurred loading this content". When I select subtitle "None" again, the video plays perfectly fine.
- Variation:
When I manually add an *.srt file to the folder on my media drive, suddenly I can choose "English (srt)" as subtitle, which works perfectly fine.
- Notes
1. The English subtitles show up as "English (srt)" when I play the file with PHT and when selected, they work perfectly fine.
2. Behaviour is the same for media files in *.mkv and *.avi and *.m4v formats
3. I've tried playing with settings on PMS, Plexconnect and ATV2 unsuccessfully. So many variations make things difficult.
Solution I'm seeking:
It seems like OpenSubtitles.org is providing subtitles to my media files (since it works on PHT), but for some reason ATV2 / Plexconnect is not able to recognise the "srt" file and won't play the video when the subtitle "English ( )" is selected. I'd like ATV2 to recognise the "srt" files, so I can select any subtitle I want for any media file I have.
Please let me know if you think the log-files might provide a solution.
Thanks in advance.
Im new to the plexconnect part of plex, as i just bough myself a aTV 3gen.
Ive used Plex for a couple of years on my Samsung smart tv (hating that is another issue…)
Ive got quite a few .MKV’s that has played as directplay on my samsung, and are aware that the only thing kinda supported from Apple is .MP4 containers (M4V), so the plex server got to do some directstream business repacking the video/audio into something readable by the aTV… fair enough, but how come SOMETIMES i can watch .MKV movies with external .SRT files with no huge load on the server (stream), and other times the server does a full encode? If i choose to disable subtitles, the movie is using directstream afaik, as the server load is next to nothing.
I have read some saying that whenever you are using subtitles, the plexserver HAS to transcode to “burn” the text to the image… but as i said, i cant imagine the server doing a transcode with 1% cpu load without subtitles, and use 100% if i enable subtitles?
PlexConnect is supports a “native” way of subtitle overlay, coded on the JS side on aTV. It is able to display external SRT files, just what you mentioned, without a full transcode/burn in step of the movie. Please check if those files giving you a high server load indeed use external SRT subtitles and nothing embedded. Also double check if transcoding is not triggered by any other settings, like resolution/bitrate/… aka does the movie really plays direct-stream-wise with subtitle off?
Also check the PlexConnect settings. There is an option to modify the subtitle handling, but I guess, you are not switching that in between your tests, right?
Sorry, ive been busy a couple of days, but from what i have tested i cant say why it does not work.
Did a git update today, but kinda thought it had nothing to do with it, but tested a couple of files just now and it was working… weird.
I see you write that i have to use external .srt, and not embedded. Does that mean if the .srt files are inside the .mkv container it wont work? Cos i caaaaaan slightly think i have done that on a few movies. Ill do some more testing and make sure to use .srt’s that are “outside” the .mkv
Thx.
