Panasonic can't sign in or connect to server

maybe… this will never happen. I suggest you to buy a Tv Stick like Amazon fire TV, low cost super powerful and plex works much more better.

We both know that is not going to happen.
The App that you want to work is not supported by Plex for almost a year now. They broke it by accident and knew how to put a quick fix in place so they did. That fix did not work for everyone (Which is genuinely unfortunate) but it would mean that in order to get a fix they would have to invest a bunch more time (Which they are probably not going to do for an unsupported app).

The single best solution if something you use is not supported, broken and you are not able to fix it yourself, is to move to an alternative that does work.

Hi,
Can I ask: what TLS issue? I see loads of answers like this in forums and they raise more questions than they answer. I’ve been using Plex for a little over a year now (and have loved it, compared to my previous media server) but all of a sudden the app has stopped working on my Panasonic TV. I spent three or four days trying to sign in (the button did nothing), logging out and back in to my server, attempting to enter manual IPs, rebooting my router, my PC and then removing the app from the TV and reinstalling it. Nothing worked. If this is down to support ending, should I not expect to be able to continue to use the app with no support? Alternatively, can I roll back to the last server version that worked with the TV? I’ve not been able to use Plex on my TV for a week now and it’s very frustrating, especially when I can see it working on the Roku box downstairs.

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated, even if it’s just a few links to helpful pages. I notice a lot of people have been saying “thanks for the fix, everything’s fine now” but I’ve never seen anyone mention any steps to follow to fix so I don’t know what’s going on(!)

Thanks again in advance of any help.

See the link mentioned above in post 35. Panasonic can't sign in or connect to server

Essentially at this stage if your device doesnt work now, it probably wont in future.

The fix that was implemented was put in place in Plex.tv backend services.
Not in the App on the TV
Not the Server Application that you install.

This is why you don’t see any steps to follow. Plex fixed something that you need that you have no control over.

If the Plex App doesnt work on your TV now, buy a Fire Stick or a Roku (Depending on your personal preference).

@harroguk is right @zed. Our Panasonics are 2014 models so they are probably stuck on the ‘original’ TLS version - now no longer good enough and Plex has got to move on for the sake of better security. So it’s Chromcasts or other devices and the sets are just basic TVs. Still the Panasonics have excellent screens compared to some modern cheaper ‘smart’ TV we have looked at.

I have the same problem and I am in the UK.

im in the uk and i couldnt connect to plex last week and got the plex is not reachable …then a couple of days later it worked and was able to stream…

but now i get a different error message (name of server) is offline or not reachable and it gives me 2 ip adresses it tries to connect to but cant

its the same problems as last time where if i press retry , go home it just tries to reboot the app, and if i go in settings they dont save?

any thoughts?

I can appreciate that older SMART TVs that use an unsupported TLS version are seen by PLEX as being a security risk and they will no longer allow user account authentication from these TVS. However if you are using PLEX locally (within your own network) can’t PLEX offer an option on the PLEX server to “Allow unauthenticated connections on home network”. This won’t help people connecting remotely from unsupported TVs but will help the vast majority of people use PLEX locally. When using PLEX at home to view video on a local server, the stream doesn’t go through PLEX.TV, it streams directly from the local server to the local TV, unlike remote connections to the server which do stream through PLEX.TV. I’m sure having the option I described above would let 99.9 of us users that have lost PLEX on our SMART TV happy. At the moment we can’t use PLEX at home purely because we can no longer authenticate the user account via PLEX.TV

Keep in mind that the Plex app does not actually exist on your TV. It is actually loaded over the internet every time, similar to how Plex Web loads inside a browser. Without the proper TLS support, it can’t load the app. If the app does manage to load then there is an option in the app to “allow insecure connections”. As long as your server isn’t set to require a secured connection, this should work.

Unfortunately the ‘allow fallback to insecure connections’ option isn’t displayed in Panasonic version of the app. Also no changes are retained when attempting to edit settings on the app.
Sign in option does not work.
I hope Plex will do the right thing by Panasonic users and restore support for this.
Many I’ve spoken to would prefer the Plex interface. But seeing that is no longer an option without spending money on yet another new TV or device, they have just switched to using a DLNA server so that they can still watch their media on their Panasonic using the ‘Media Server’ options under apps.
Personally I suggest Serviio.

Just confirming what zmcwest said.
The PLEX app loads on the TV an “settings” can be accessed, however there is no option to allow insecure connections.

After 2 months of messing about with this, getting nowhere fast… I have this… and its not good.

I first assumed that the problem was that the App, which is hosted remotely by Panasonic, was having ‘issues’… to tried to trick it into resetting things like DNS & TLS etc…

I was almost correct… it was indeed the app… because its now been shutdown entirely by Panasonic. If you delete it from your TV, you can no longer re-load it… its not in the app market anymore.

Panasonic, have removed it… end of. Game Over.

Thanks for info. All things considered it really comes down to lack of support (or removal of it) by Panasonic, rather than any issues with the PLEX organization. If Panasonic were to upgrade their SMART TV security to use something other than TLS 1.0 or 1.2 the existing app would work. Firmware updates for older Panasonic TVs are no longer being offered, their solution to this particular issue seems to be to remove the PLEX app, rather than support their users. I’ve been a faithful Panasonic TV user for many years, since their exceptional Plasma displays, but I’ll now rethink buying Panasonic again.
