I am in Australia and same thing happened today on my 1 day old Hisense 2020 model.
I’ve tried to use the “Local Server” option but similar to above, there is no ability for me to turn on “Allow fallback to insecure connections”.
Really frustrating. Hope someone at Plex can help.
Plex supported or not on Panasonic TV no (2014 or newer not supported) but i have a 2019 Panasonic TV and was supported again yesterday ? maybe i done a mistake
“supported again yesterday” he/she means “supported until yesterday”, translating from some languages again/until can be confused. Of course it was not officially supported, just left to die and die it did last night.
I don’t think anyone at Plex had realized the Panasonic clients would die along with some other lesser known and old Smart TVs, so they just went in today and retro-actively added Panasonic to the announcement. I mean it is a free software app so I can’t complain much that we got no advance notice and an entire popular brand (ok not in the US) stops working, even though it would seem to me allowing an insecure connection in my network would be trivial. But as a software developer myself who tries to support as many “old” users as possible when it is reasonable, I am a bit disappointed.
I mean even if they just added to that post apologising to Panasonic users instead of editing it to appear like it was already announced would be a good thing. Sweeping under rug is not nice.
Here i am.
Panasonic 55GZ2000 purchased on 22-sept-2020. I only used Plex once to watch a movie and the second time the message appeared.
My server is a Qnap HS-251, other devices (PC, Amazon Fire TV, Pixel 2XL) works flawlessy.
I’m looking for solutions but I haven’t found anything yet.
We bought a £2000 Panasonic 65GZ1500 series in July 2020, I really wish I had stuck with LG, the picture and sound are OK but everything else about this TV is crap it won’t connect to anything including now Plex as of yesterday. Won’t get Disney app, won’t connect to Divx server either, I hate this TV and feel like booting my foot through it.
I am talking about this specific announcement here, it was posted on this thread by SNAAP-FR who was wondering if it is related. I visited it last night and it seemed like it might be the cause, but there was no mention of Panasonic. Also, I did not get the email that users of the actually listed TVs got at the same time, see the email sent out here - it has the wording I saw in that announcement last night that does not mention Panasonic. And, well, we didn’t get the email. So, yes, I am pretty sure it was added today (see last edit date for the exact time).
To be clear, support HAD officially ended, no new versions were going out, so the app was left on the store as long as it still worked. BUT Panasonic owners were out of the loop about when their service would actually end and the announcement that users of Vizio et al got was edited post-fact.
I guess the difference is that if I know my app is unsupported then I exptect it to stop working any day. Every day that it does work is a surprise.
I worked out pretty quickly that it was an issue with the Panasonic App. Am I frustrated by it? Yup. Is it a PITA having to find a new way to watch plex on my TV? Yup. Do I expect plex to fix an app that they created?
Nope, I have been a plex customer for long enough to know that they don’t give a crap about removing features they feel that are not widely used. Its the plex way. Deal with it.
Well, I said myself I had no expectation for a free app like this, I just said it was disappointing and I found especially “not nice” (my words - don’t think I was harsh at all) the fact that they actually went and edited an old announcement to make it appear we were warned of the impending doom like other users were!
I mean why not man up and say, “oh, yeah, Panasonic too was affected, sorry for not including it in this” instead of being sneaky. Not professional behaviour…
