Ok, Thanks.
I try it.

The NAS guide is always here to help whenever questions:

I just did the update. There were no problems.
The server even feels faster.
Will the next updates still run like this or are they already displayed in Plex?

It should stabilize for you now.

Yes, Plex does feel faster on DSM 7 now. I cannot quantify the change but it is there.

This update is still out of sync with the main downloads page. It will be until DSM 7 is in Final Release form.

i want to express my thanks to ChuckPA from PLEX TEAM , to solve all of My Problem With the DSM7 on Plex . Thank You and GRAZIE from Italy :kissing_heart:

Chuck I have tried everything and now running 3870 on DSM , all permissions have been assigned as directed and Plex can see all files in movies and other photo folders other than the main default photo folder “photo”. I am also running Synology photos and not sure if that is blocking Plex. Plex can read the folders within the folder “photo” but I just get the message “There are no items in this foder”. If I copy the photos to a separate folder and add that folder, then I see the photos fine. It is just the system default folder photo which cannot be read. Any ideas, thanks.

Option 1

Are you using user “PlexMediaServer” for permissions or user “Plex”?
“Plex” is dead in DSM 7. We were forced and I don’t have permission to remove it anymore.

Option 2

Are you using the Synology-created shared folder for photos or did you create one of your own?

I’ve noticed, and helped another user with, dealing with DSM 6-7 transition and photos.

The root problem is that Synology will always exert and claim exclusive ownership of their default video, music, and photos shared photos. While it makes absolutely zero sense, only your username can access them. None of the permissions you assign have any effect.

The solution, for as awkward as it may be, is:

  1. Create your own shared folders for “Movies”, “TV”, “Music”, and “Photos”. (Notice the capitalization)
  2. Move your media to those folders. (This gets you out from under Syno’s control)
  3. Now add permissions for PlexMediaServer to your new media shares.
  4. Delete user Plex from Control Panel - Users. (I no longer have ability to do that)
  5. To attach these new shares to the Synology apps (if you want) , go to Control Panel - Indexing Service. Add those new shared folder names.

I believe I have resolved the problem. Due to another problem I had to do a full reset on the NAS, so after reloading DSM 7. I downloaded the Plex software first, allocated permissions to the default photo folder. After allowing the photos to scan through Plex I then load Synology Photos. By doing it in this order it appears to allow Plex access to the default photo folder.
Thanks for your help.

@ChuckPa
if I want to upgrade from version 1.21.1.3870 to 1.21.1.3906, do I have to do the same as with the last one?
Uninstall with keeping data, then install the new spk file?

Go for it. Normal upgrade is 100% ok.

We only needed to change over to the new Synology version numbering once.

hi Chuck,
i have a question,
You gave me the link to download the version 1.21.0.3744
I see you’re talking about version 1.21.1.3906 is it compatible with DSM 7 ?
on website (Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More)1.21.2.3943-a91458577 available
thank you for coming back

1.21.1.3906 is my DSM 7 developer build.
( I included release notes this time – in the Preview Thread links – haha )

Over the next few days, I will be building DSM 7 update which includes 1.21.2.3943.

It’ll probably be something like 1.21.2.3969 (the last 4 digits are the build).
Once I build (compile) that , I then create the DSM 7 package binaries.

I will update the the Preview Thread links at that time to reflect the newest build

Thanks, Chuck, for this update

Hey Chuck,

With that update all my posters are coming back.
Thnx!

SWEET!!!

After all this time, I FINALLY figured out what was wrong. It was driving me crazy… It turns out my media library is not on a Synology volume, but on an external drive connected by USB (for various reasons). I found this Synology Help page recently that mentions that usbshare cannot be used with ACL :-\ No idea why… but that sure explains why all my attempts at adding proper ACLs to the media library had failed.

So right now, my only option it to manually edit the permissions every time I add files to make sure PlexMediaLibrary has rw_ rights on them, which is a bit of a pain… If anybody has any suggestion to workaround the issue, I’d be forever grateful

Corentin

Are you using a NTFS-formatted external USB?

The drive is formatted in ext4.

@cortig I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’m curious to know why you aren’t using a volume on any of your HDD’S on your Synology to hold your media?
