Photos on Synology into Plex

Server Version#:Version 4.147.1
Player Version#:
Trying to see if there is a good workflow or process for adding or reviewing synology photos or the inherent photos dir into plex?

I came across this but curious if there is a better way or updated process?

If you want to retain the default photo folder and use it for storing photos for Plex, then there is no other way of doing so.

Convert shared folder to Windows ACL (should be required once only)

  • Go to DSM Control Panel > Shared Folder
  • Right click on the photo shared folder and and select
Action > Convert to Windows ACL.
  • Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the conversion.

Grant Plex permissions

  • Go back to DSM Control Panel > Shared Folder
  • Select the photo shared folder, click Edit, and navigate to the
    Permissions tab
  • Change the permission view from Local users to System internal user
  • Find and select the PlexMediaServer user
  • Check the Read/Write permission box and click Save
  • Rescan your photo library within Plex to see the new media

Grant Plex permissions using File Station (repeat if Plex is missing content)

  • Open File Station and right click on the photo folder and select Properties
  • Highlight PlexMediaServer and click on Edit
  • Make sure all permissions are granted
  • Close the Edit dialogue
  • Make sure you enable Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files
  • Click on Save
  • Rescan your photo library within Plex to see the new media

You may of course add a dedicated Media/Photos folder for Plex, but that cannot be utilised by Synology Photos and would probably require duplication of your photos, assuming you want them to appear in both Plex and Synology Photos.
