"Playback Error An error occurred trying to play this item. shaka1001 (Network)"

For the now unplayable files: can you play them in Media Player or VLC at all ?

Just checking if your WD disk isn’t corrupt

For me, all unplayable files can be opened in other players.
Strange that Dev. have not been able to figure this out from the different logs posted. Hopefully they are able to solve it soon

The files play fine natively via wmp, vlc and have checked the WD HDD as mcuh as I can. The issue is not the files sadly.

Im getting the same error shaka1001 (Network) after i pause a video will happen about 5seconds into the pause. Did the recent update for plex did not get this error before. Noticed it on windows 10 Chrome and my PS4

here is what worked for me, not saying it’ll work for you but it maybe worth a try.
I was getting both Shaka 1001 and transcoder failure

uninstalled though control panel.
Task manager to stop “plex update service” (won’t be alble to delete everything unless this is off)
deleted this folder C:\Users\Name?\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
deleted this folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex
rename this folder C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA (rename RSA)
renamed the source folders (TV Shows = TV Shows 2.0)
regedit and delete \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.
turn off for 10 mins
turn on for 10 mins (dont know why I did this just had other things to do I guess)
reinstall and rebuild libraries
Put your right foot in, take your right foot out, shake it all about.

knock on wood haven’t had a problem since

Hmm… Would be nice if a Plex official would comment on this bug. Any news on fixing this ?

Might help someone down the road.

I was getting this obtuse error after migrating to a Rockstor NAS.
It only happened in the web client, and only on TV and Movies, not Music.
So I chown -R plex:plex /mnt2/plex-transcode/ my BTRFS transcoding pool and Plex is happy again.

For me, the permissions were ok on my data/ share, but I forgot that I moved my transcode/ share on an ssd pool with the wrong permissions so transcoding could not start.

Playback Error: An error occurred trying to play this item.
shaka3015 (Media)

I have now received this error for the first time and it only occurs when I try to play any of 11 mkv files I have ripped from the Star Trek blu rays - and apparently only when I use Chrome. I do not get the error when I use Firefox or Edge. I haven’t had the chance to try it on my Roku or other devices, but for me it does seem to be localized to how Chrome is handling the direct stream. (Turning it off from the debug menu eliminates the error, but obviously not the ideal permanent fix.) Not sure if this is helpful in trying to pinpoint the problem, but I otherwise have never had any issues with reading any files. Also, I get the same results from the Plex server on my Windows 10 PC and my other Plex server on my WD MyCloud DL2100. Is this issue still being looked at?

Hi,

PMS 1.11.0.4666 with Chrome Web Player 3.32.2 seem to have resolved several issues for me:

  • no problems with subtitles at all, even after pausing or skipping back near the end of a show;
  • no “skaka1001” error when pausing for a while near the end of a show.
  • PMS does not spin into an endless buffering loop anymore after doing several skips back and forward in a row.

Thanks Devs & Happy New Year.

I can’t play any video anymore, just get this message all the time. Tried rescanning and refreshing of course, my PMS version is 1.10.1.4602.
Playing tv shows, which I got in a separate folder, works fine though.

I don’t want to remove and rename my movie folder as it will mess up file paths for other programs. Is there any solution for this?

Welp, I just started getting a Shaka error too, in the Web app. “Playback Error: An error occurred trying to play this item. shaka3015 (Media)”

I am getting it too … running on CentOS7.

What worked for me with the “Shaka 1001” bug:

Go to the specific movie (I had several that would play).
Choose “Analyse” from the extended menu. HD drive spinned a few seconds.

After this, the movie would play. I had to go through the process for each “broken” movie. Other movies would play just fine.

My Shaka-problems seems to be gone after installing: Plex Server1.11.0.4666

i have been getting the same playback errors. super frustrating. my server shows that there are no further updates, but an above user references a server version that is newer than mine. mine is 1.10.1.4602.

we are not able to play from any of the clients (web/browser, xbox, roku, fire tv). completely unusable. i cannot even play movies from the media server itself. i am able to connect to my NAS, which is where all of the media is.

The error occurs when the plex finishes one episode of a series and starts to play the next episode.
If I click on that episode, it starts and plays without issue.

After doing searches on this site and google, this seems to be a fairly common error. I have been able to determine the following:

It is not Chrome related, I can reliably reproduce the error in IE.
The error is not drive related, I have tried different drives in my system.
The error is not drive vendor related, can reproduce on Seagate and Toshiba without difference.

I hope this helps someone find a solution!

Thanks,

Fryyo

I finally gave up on Plex and trying to fix it or waiting for a fix, Switched to Emby!

I’m getting this error also, movies that previously played now fail. Currently on 1.11.0.4666

Renamed the library folder, (Movies > Movies1) made a new folder with the same name as the original (Movies), refreshed library, then deleted trash and deleted the new folder. Renamed the original library folder (Movies1 > Movies), seems to have fixed it.

I’m regularly getting this error now when watching videos over Plex Cloud. If I watch videos from my main server, it’s fine, but through Cloud, I keep getting the error, possibly combined with Plex Cloud resetting.
